It was centered on Tenley Circle? Or Tenley Circle was named for Tenleytown? There are Queens and then there are Queens. I have a Queen line that showed up in North Carolina after about the Revolution. I was on the Queen list for a while about four or five years ago and we had some fun debating whether or not we were related to the Maryland/DC/Kentucky Queens -- and never really got anywhere. Having read about the Melungeons since then -- there have been some excellent books about them published in the past ten years -- I've come to the conclusion that we North Carolina Queens are descended from a Melungeon (white/American Indian) group in rural Maryland/New Jersey. (There are quite a few of these mysterious rural groups in the eastern U.S., especially in the South.) Wayne Winkler does a good job, in his book, discussing many of these groups. (I don't own a copy -- yet.)
