My very bare threads for Washington D.C. a portrait of my great-grandmother with a handwritten annotation identifying her in Washington D.C. in her seventies (between 1940-50?) and another notation in family records identifying my great-aunt as "from Washington" in the 1920s. They are respectively Lelia Goddin Haynes LA VARRE and Lucille LA VARRE, later m. ROBBINS. Apparently, my great-grandfather William Johanne LA VARRE Sr. worked as a naval architect but as a civilian. Their first son was born in 1898 in NY. A portrait of g-gfather places him at Bremerton (Wash. State) in 1899 at Puget Sound. That 'fact' could be flawed though. Their youngest son was born in 1911 in Staten Island, NY. Apparently, when my grandfather (the youngest) went to college in the early 30s, g-gfather left to sow whatever wild oats remained.
