Although census taken in July/August time frame it is reflective of 1 June. ward 2 pg 69: John Shields, age 34, clerk dept., born in Penn ward 2 pg 126: John Shields, age 24, servant, born in Ireland He is listed amongst the workers of the hotel he is apparently employed at and not with family. ward 4 pg 244: John Shields, age 31, occupation - none, born in DC Chuck

I just looked at all 16 references for "Shields" in DC in 1860 - no reference to a John and Catherine :( They have to be somewhere!
