I think I'm remembering that several people on this list are interested in the German Orphanage that was established in 1879 in DC. There is an excellent article about the history of the orphanage in the current issue of Washington History (18:1-2, 2006). I don't know whether the Historical Society of Washington has extra copies available for individual sale, but they used to do that.
