    3. I don't know about "Glen Ellen" itself but the idea of a farm or house having a name is not so far-fetched!! Several lines of my family lived & died in NW DC for at least the last five generations. In the middle to late 1800s one of our family's home was the 13 room farmhouse of an hundred acre farm on Wisconsin Avenue, NW (which was a dirt track) where Garrison St would later be cut through. This area was called Robeyville, Tennallytown, Tenleytown and other names. This home was called Maplehurst. Many of the homes were called a name as in England to this day rather than a numbered address. There was Friendship Heights to the north and Glover Park to the south. Many of the people who lived in this area had businesses or worked in Georgetown. I think Glen Echo would have been a little far on a horse! Do you know what area of NW you are talking about? On page 78 of Judith Beck Helm's book "Tenleytown, DC she mentions: 1. the Murdock family home "Friendship"; 2. the Loughborough's "Grassland"; 3. the Nourse's "Highlands"; 4. John Adlum's "Vineyard"; 5. Dent's "Springland"; 6. Serrett's "Dunblane"; 7. Arianna Lyles' "The Rest"; and 8. General North's "Seiler or Bonsal House". A city directory might help. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library has city directories as I believe does the DC Historical Society. Hope this helps. ----- Original Message ----- From: Sue Dotson <buzzybee@prodigy.net> To: <WashingtonDC-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, March 19, 2002 10:51 AM Subject: Re: [WashingtonDC'' ] A Place > My Dad was born, raised, and lived in DC all his life.
