From "Guide to the Records of your District of Columbia Ancestors" by Eleanor M. V. Cook: "E street Baptist Church, located on E Street between Sixth and Seventh Streets, NW, was organized in 1842 and a church erected in 1843. A new church was dedicated at Tenth and N Streets, NW, in 1902 and the church, now the Temple Baptist Church, is presently located on Nebraska Avenue, off Ward Circle. To obtain information from the records, call or write and make an appointment to come in. Temple Baptist Church, 3850 Nebraska Avenue, NW, Washington DC 20016, telephone 244-3935." Marriage announcement in the paper stated they were married by the Rev. George Whitefield Samson, pastor of the E Street Baptist Church (located at E and 6th Streets, Washington, DC). Did not indicate NW, NE, SW, or SE. I have not been able to locate this church. Would anyone know if the church is still there? Does it have another name? Have the street names been changed? Where might I find information about the church for that time period. Thanks for ANY help. Carol H. ============================== View and search Historical Newspapers.
