Hello all! I am sending this email to several RootsWeb lists and Bcc to individuals Ive corresponded with over the years. List members, please forgive any spacing errors. It happens, on occasion, when I cut and paste. I am not related to the family I am researching. This is a hobby of mine and an extension of my interest in history. My research goal is to: "Determine the ancestry (birth date/place, wife's birth/death, parents, & siblings) of CORNELIUS McLEAN SR. of Washington, DC, born circa 1774, died SEP 12, 1836, at his Washington residence on 7th St. at the age of 62." I havent been very active in genealogy in 2005 because (1) my husband and I became parents for the first time in June 2005 (YAY!!) and (2) I hit a brick wall in my research. Based on sparse documentation and deductive reasoning, Im pursuing a theory that Cornelius hailed from Staten Island. In December 2003 I contacted Green Mount Cemetery in Baltimore to find out if Cornelius wife, Eliza, and, hopefully, Cornelius, were buried with their daughters family since Eliza lived with her daughter after Cornelius death. Green Mount sent a burial listing in June 2004. Sadly, there were no McLeans. Fast forward to 10 days ago when I received an email with Cornelius McLean as the subject. A kind gentleman by the name of Doug found Cornelius and Eliza in Green Mount while he was conducting a survey of the cemetery. Last Monday he emailed pictures of the grave markers. I now have birth dates and locations for both Cornelius and Eliza! Here is a transcription of each marker: Cornelius McLean Born Staten Island August 21, 1774 Died Washington City September 12, 1836 Eliza McLean Born Philadelphia September 22, 1780 Died Baltimore May 21, 1867 Elizas maiden name was Esp(e)y. She and Cornelius are buried in the Hardisty/Hardesty plot at Green Mount. Thank you all for your help over the years. This is so encouraging. Im more anxious than ever to resume my research at some point in the future. Best of luck to all of you in your searches. ~ Jamie
