    3. Can someone tell me the best way to find wills in Washington DC? I'd really like to find a copy of the will of Burton Whetcroft who lived in Washington DC from 1813 until 1822. He died on 4-20-1822 in Utica, NY while visiting his daughter. I assume his will (if one existed) would have been probated in DC. He owned several slaves, and I am particularly interested in finding out their names and what happened to them after his death. Thanks for any help anyone can give. Sharon Stanfield

    3. I would probably start by going to the District of Columbia web site at http://www.dc.gov/ There is a search engine on almost every page and places to send a query. The Superior Court also has a web site. There is also one for the Washington DC Historical Society. 3. From the DC Probate Records Will Books 1 through 6 1801-1852 and Estates Files 1801-1852 compiled by Wesley E. Pippenger: BURTON WHITCRAFT (spelled with an "i") page 391 dated 31 May 1822, bond, O.S. (Old Series) Number 0979. This would be at the National Archives.
