    3. Elizabeth - I'm not sure if Anna Reeves was protestant or not, but the Mattinglys had a long history of activity with the Catholic church in the D.C. area. They are to be found early on in Holy Trinity church records. In fact, if I have the relationships worked out correctly, Thomas's grandmother, Ann Carberry Mattingly. was the Ann Mattingly whose 1824 cure was held by the church to be miraculous. Ann Carberry Mattingly and her husband John were prominent members of Holy Trinity. Both Holy Trinity and St. Aloysius are operated by the Jesuits - or were at least early on - so that may account for Thomas being involved at St. Aloysius. I've been following some of the earlier Mattinglys and their associated families in the D.C. area. I know I have found a couple of burials in Holy Rood. But I think I would definitely be looking at the Catholic cemeteries in the area.
