I have William Bailey in the 1880 DC census whose occupation is H.&S. Painter. Does anyone know what H.&S. stands for? Also, does anyone have an 1870 DC census, and could do a lookup for William (b.PA) and/or Elizabeth (b.NY) Bailey, about 35 years old? In 1860 census they were in the 1st Ward, and later lived at 915 5th St. N.W. Thanks very much for any help. F.Y.I. There are many Bailey's in the early Fairfax County, Virginia area. That would be right next to DC, and depending on the year a part of DC. I have the book Elephants and Quaker Guns by Jane Chapman Whitt. It gives the history of Bailey's Cross Roads Virginia and a lot of Bailey family history. I can lend the book for your reading, please let me know if you would like to read it. Your local library would probably be able to get it also. Helen
