I have been given several locations and addresses from which to obtain copies of wills filed in the District during the mid- to late-1800's. I've written several letters over the past year and heard nothing back. I think I may not be writing to the correct source. Can someone tell me the correct location and address to get these documents? Thanks to everyone who sent me info about D.C. Catholic cemetaries - I found the cemetary and the ancestor I was searching for! Sue in Washington State
Oh Sweetheart! Sorry you got the run around. DC is so very hard to get anything from except for the address below. I have the book Index to District of Columbia Wills 1801-1920 by Dorothy S. Provine. She was the saintly archivist for the District of Columbia. You probably need the probate date and storage box number. Please send me a name so I can look it up and provide you with the date and storage box number. Here is the address and telephone number: District of Columbia Archives 1300 Naylor Court N. W. Washington, DC 20001-4225. Phone 202.727.2054. :) Helen I have been given several locations and addresses from which to obtain copies of wills filed in the District during the mid- to late-1800's.
