Boy do I need some help.... I have finally had a breakthrough on my Smith family and am hoping some generous list member might have in their resources a listing of D.C. deaths and marriages from between 1870-1880's and are willing to check for my great-great grandparents and several other "family" members... This is what I have documented... the family first appears in the 1870 D.C. census (they previously lived in Clermont Co. Ohio) in the 6th Ward pg. 264 - 1295/1932 C.M. Smith age 54 b. PA (Charles M. Smith) Adeline Smith age 45 b. Ohio Charles Smith (jr) age 15 b. Ohio James Smith age 11 b. Ohio Albert Smith age 7 b. Ohio by the 1880 D.C. census the only members of the family I can find are... ED unknown but listed as pg. 125D per LDS site search James Smith age 21 b. Ohio Sarah C. Smith age 29 b. PA (wife) Lillian M. Palmer age 9 b. D.C. (step dau.) Benjamin F. Palmer age 5 b. D.C. (step son) Mary E. Smith age 3 mos. b. D.C. (dau) Albert Smith age 16 b. Ohio (brother) (note - I find a Benjamin F. Palmer died 10/12/1875 buried in the Congressional Cemetery and am assuming that his widow Sarah married James Smith based on the stepson's name and death/marriage timing -- If some one has the marriage records from the late 1860 to early 1870's I would love to know if there is a marriage listed for a Benjamin F. Palmer & Sarah? AND a listing for a Sarah C. Palmer & James Smith between 1875 - 1880) I cannot find Charles M. Smith b. 1816 PA, Adeline Smith b. 1824 OH or Charles M. Smith b. 1855 OH in the D.C. census after 1870- if anyone has any information that might indicate that they died between 1870-1880 PLEASE let me know as it is unbelievably difficult to search for Smiths without some very generous assistance. (note - in the "Index to District of Columbia Wills 1801-1920" by Dorothy S. Provine there is a listing for a Charles M. Smith -1880 Box 73 that seems a likely link and I will be requesting a copy of the will). Also - I have no idea what happened to Sarah C. Palmer/Smith (b. 1851 PA) or her 3 children - Lillian M. Palmer (b. 1871 DC), Benjamin F. Palmer (b. 1875 DC) and Mary E. Smith (b. 1880 DC) since by 1887 James Smith is now married to Louise L. Spiess (b. 1867 DC). It seems like getting a break on my Smiths only leads to even more questions to answer.... so to summarize -- ANY information (death or marriage or ?) on... *Charles M. Smith (1816 PA) last found on 1870 DC census - died or left? *Adeline Smith (1824 OH) last found on 1870 DC census - died, left or remarried? *Charles M.
