Hello, I have the obituary from the Washington Post for a relative that died Nov. 1950 and states that "Internment George Washington Lodge Cemetery". I googled but can not locate any information about this cemetery. Does anyone have an idea as to where it might be located and/or how I might be able to find more information? (He is a lifelong resident of DC so assume it is in the DC area.) Thanks Angela
Angela: Appears George Washington Lodge was part of a Jewish congregation (appears that National Capitol Lodge replaced it) and burials for that congregation were at: NATIONAL CAPITAL HEBREW CEMETERY: 4708 Fable Street, Capitol Heights, MD 20743. (202) 420-9710 Caretaker: (301) 420-9710. National Capitol Hebrew Cemetery Association, Howard Katz (President) (301) 933-9710. National Capitol Hebrew Cemetery is located in S.E. Washington and partly in Capitol Heights, MD (PG Co.) Take Beltway Exit 15B (Central Ave. West) and follow Central Avenue approx. 2.8 mi. Turn left onto Yost St. and right onto Central Ave. Go approx. 0.7 mi. to Larchmont Ave. Turn left, Go approx. 0.7 mi. and turn right on Fable Street 2nd cemetery used by that Lodge was Mt. Lebanon Cemetery and I found a reference that it was also in PG Co MD but cannot find a yellow pages listing for it or any further information. The National Capitol Hebrew Cemetery Association may have more information for you (contact name & phone number above) I find no transcriptions for this cemetery listed on our site (MD Tombstone Transcription Project), Findagrave or Internment.net. You should call the cemetery and ask what their procedure for doing lookups in their records is, some cemeteries charge an upfront fee to do that.
