That is The DC Penal Institution at Lorton, VA. Lorton Reformatory as it was known is now extinct. It was closed and buildings torn down within the last 10 years. In the early years Lorton was a self sustaining institution that grew and raised all their own food, they made their own clothes, learned trades so that when they were released they would be able to find jobs. My father worked there first as a guard and finally as the safety engineer for about 30 years. By the time he retired, Lorton had changed and no longer was able to support itself because it had become a maximum care facility.
