Where do I look for a death certificate for someone who died in Washington DC. I know the name but not when they passed away. And on the DC death certificates do they usually have the names of the parents.
Would anyone be able to locate a death date for George Horseman? He died between 1860 and 1870, when his widow, Jane, is on the census with their daughter Frances Ann Proctor and son-in-law James Proctor. Susan in Missouri
AMEN!! I only use the genealogy program to organize the data I've spent lots of time and money researching - NEVER do I pass on anything to them. Nor do I give others permission to do so when I share our information. The sort of error which ends up online (aside from those from FTM): I had a great great uncle who was married in St. Louis in February 1849. I have a copy of the St. Louis record. The marriage was picked up by a New York newspaper at the time, so the marriage is listed online in New York marriages, either on a CD or in someone's compilation of marriages from New York papers. So, that's another reason to be really careful what you use as a source. Ousley is also Owsley. There is a national group that has traced a lot of this family. We are related to a revolutionary soldier who was given parts of Fort Belvoir for his service to his country. Ann, After much investigating, etc., I have come to the conclusion that the Ferguson's are not mine. I am disappointed because there was so much already done on the Fergusons'. What I kept looking at was the birth state was Illinois and that was just not right for my person. My Mary Murray was born in Alexandria and married a William Grady in Alexandria. I have found some info on them but not a lot. Need to get back up to Alexandria. Thanks for the info that you did give me. Sorry gang, I should have been more specific. My knowledge of the Sinclair Hotel is based on a margin note from the 1850 Census for Washington, DC. A relative-by-marriage's ancestor, a Geo Sinclair, is listed as a Tavernkeeper. Sinclair's hotel is essentially next door to West's Hotel, John West Hotel keeper. No street is listed. That surname rings a bell. Back in the late 1940's I knew a man who was an accountant - he had an odd first name that began with a B - but the rest escapes me. Seems to me that he worked at Mount Vernon (George Washington's home). Wish it was more, but that is the best I can come up with. My God provides my every need according to His riches in glory. If your public library system has The Historic Washington Post (an online database), you could look up the Sinclair Hotel in that. There is a search function: I found a lot of material on a couple of ancestors who were in DC in the early 1900s. Do you have any dates for the Sinclair Hotel? There are a lot of local histories of this area out there, from the "postcard books" to academic works.
