Sue, I would enclose a SASE as a courtesy. They don't charge for the research and copying which is amazing to me. (At least they didn't the last time I did it). I've been sending my requests via email, and have not sent an SASE as a result. Unfortunately, the 1940 certificate I need has to come from the Vital Records office rather than the Archives - and they'll make up for it! Not sure if the John Ousley who was White House gardener form 1820 to 1850 or so would of fought in Revolutionary War. He would of been very old by 1850 ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
If you need a bit of color on John Ousley, you might try Google books which has limited previews of a couple of books that have short squibs on John Ousley's tenure at the White House. From one of them it sounds as if Ousley lived on the grounds for at least part of his tenure there before being fired by Millard Fillmore. Hello, Looking for family information on John OUSLEY who was White House gardener 1820's for 30 years Thanks ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
I would imagine that DC Archives or National Archives would have what you are looking for. I found quite a bit on a John Ousley who fought in the Revolutionary War. He was born in Loudoun County, VA. I just put the name John Ousley in Google and found that. No mention of any gardening for the white house though. Mary My God provides my every need according to His riches in glory. Hi - Seeking information about: Mary Frances Watts - b. 1915 Anna E. Watts - b 1918 Their parents were Unk. Capt. Watts (Watz) and Anna Mable Jones. Thank you, debi
Heya Debi- goofed on the 1880 theory, I found the right one in DC, widowed with the right kids. :) Also found them on in 1860, not finding him in 1850. Do you have a marriage record for William and Anna? I looked for an obit for him, haven't found one yet. :) Kate genealogyldy@comcast.net wrote: Hi: Still searching for the ancestry of William Butler Jones, b. 1824 Maryland and lived and died in Washington DC, 1900. Hi Debi- Do you have William in 1880? It looks like he's living with an Alexander family in DC, is widowed and possibly a son Frank is living with him? He is a clerk in an office- Kate genealogyldy@comcast.net wrote: Hi: Still searching for the ancestry of William Butler Jones, b. 1824 Maryland and lived and died in Washington DC, 1900.
