    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Glenwood Cemetery
    2. Hi list, I've seen name, Glenwood Cemetery, in the past and 'breezed' by it. Now it has surfaced in my research and I don't know if it's in DC, MD, or VA. I'm interested in the address, phone number, web address etc. Thanks for any help. I won't be so quick to 'breeze' through the boards anymore. Dottie in Florida

So this question depends on a time period and the localities. Nowadays, there might be two undertakers involved. My husband died out of state in an accident. His body was kept at a funeral parlor in the town where the accident occurred until my local undertaker was able to send a car to go get it. Then he was brought home to the place of the funeral. (They were not able to complete the death cert out of state until I decided on the details of place and method of burial, and they couldn't take the body across state lines without one. ) Janet C-S

    3. Hi, all, This may seem like a silly question but here goes! When someone died out of town, where is the undertaker located...at the place of death or place of burial? I have info from Rock Creek Cemetery for one of my fellows and the undertaker listed on their index is different from the one listed on his death certificate in Baltimore. Has anyone heard of W. J. Tickner and Son in either city...Washington or Baltimore? Thanks ever so much! Best regards, Elizabeth Culhane Fairport, New York

    3. Well, now I'm worried. I just sent a request last week for 3 wills to the DC Archives and I wonder if they will respond to me. I'm looking for Lettie Singleton died Sept 1928, Jane Herr died July 1928 and Julia Moran died Dec 1928. They all lived in the same house 1232 Water St, SW. Anybody have these??? 1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Re Business Ownership in DC
    2. My (step)niece's great grandfather owned a restaurant in SW DC in the 1920/30-1950 time period. He had emigrated from Greece, first to Massachusetts and then to DC. Would a search for records of this business help in her genealogical research? If so, does anyone have any information as to what branches of the DC Government she should contact. Various records she has (birth certificates of children, etc.) have his given name listed many ways: Konstantinos, Constantine, Gust, Steve. They all seem to have the last name spelled correctly: Mamakos. Barbara

    3. Thanks for your thoughts, Janet, but we don't know the answers to any of those questions. We do know they lived in all four of those 'states' around that time frame, which is why it could be any of the four places, and I guess five if you include Maryland as a possibility. I was wondering if there was anything significantly different about the forms from state to state that one might be able to recognize a form as coming from a particular state? 1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church and Community
    2. I earlier wrote about looking for information about my GF, Vasilios Chebithes. I still trying to locate any information on the census of 1920. However, I found some information about Saint Sophia finally that said it was started in 1904, home of Washington's Greek Community. However did not have a permanent home until 1956, I know they were housed at one time where the Albert Small Jewish Museum now stands. Is there anyone on this list that could possible have any information about the streets and locations of what would be the Greek Community of Wash? Also if anyone has a book list of books that give a history of the early Washington, around and after the 1900's I would also appreciate it. Im also insearch of old photographs. Thanks to all JC Phelps Stafford, Virginia

    2. Does anybody know about a Catholic school on the SW side of DC in the 1920's? My grandmother went to Catholic school somewhere in DC, she lived on Water St, SW Wash, DC. I can't imagine the school was too far. Thanks. The school could have been St. Dominic's. My grandfather, his brothers, sisters and cousins all went there. They lived on G Street, SW, and later on 8th Street, SW.

    3. Hi, I also have a relative that lived at 1240 Water Street SW in 1893. John W. Murray. I am going to order the 1900 Soundex from FHC. That will give the enumeration district for that street. It will probably be later in August when I do that because I am planning a trip to DC in August for family research. You have sparked my interest and if I have time may try to find where it is or was.
