    1. Re: [WashingtonDC'' ] The World Trade Center and the Pentagon
    2. Some people need to be more understanding of others. A lot of lives were lost and we all need to unite at a time like this. We should all say a prayer for the United States of America, those who died, their families and our President, that he make the right choices. Let those who want to talk about all this on the list do so without criticism. Peggy in California

    3. Dear List Members, we the human race experienced the full force of hatred today. The horror that was acted out upon the United States, does not only effect us, but it effects all man kind. Today we saw true hatred and world will never be the same. I ask each of you to be understanding for the next few days while messages are being posted to the lists that do not deal with the topic of the list. Many of our members live alone - and we, their fellow list members are their families. They need to talk, they need to express their shock at what has happened to their world they need to connect with their fellow man - those they know who care. If your system cannot deal with the extra e-mail, you might want to unsubscribe for a few days and then subscribe again. As a reminder, to unsubscribe send only the word UNSUBSCRIBE to XXXXXXXXX-L-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM or XXXXXXXX-D-REQUEST@ROOTSWEB.COM depending on if you are on the Digest or the Regular list. They specify that a member's application will not give the names of his parents, but if your man is buried in an IOOF cemetery, those records might be useful. In addition, some of these lodge organizations had insurance for their members, and those records can be helpful. JHall

    3. I went into the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad site a while back and they give you some information. There is a genealogy place to click on. If it is old records they said they have been destroyed over the years. My grandfather worked for the railroad beginning somewhere around 1875 until he retired. He died in 1932. I think their records begin around 1936. 1. [WashingtonDC'' ] 1900, 1910, 1920 US Census Index
    2. Trish Carden
    3. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable on this list that I have a question to which I hope someone knows an answer. I joined Ancestry.com early this year and have found some good information. However in order to look at some of their census records that aren't indexed you already need to know the county and district that they lived. If you don't you have to labor through hundreds of pages of copies of the original census records. I don't mind going through all those pages if I already I a good guess as to where they were living. But for some of my family I have looked through the entire county. This has taken hours and hours and I'm usually cross eyed by the time I'm finished. The big question: Is there anywhere, on the internet, where I can find an index for the 1900, 1910 and 1920 US census that will tell me what district or some clue as to where to find them. Even a county would be helpful in some instances. Thanks, Trisha Swallows Carden Nashville, Tennessee G-ma@home.com http://www.tcarden.com/tree/ensor/

    3. I would think so because my understanding was that it applied to all DC employees. I would certainly check with the archieves and get them to send you a form. It would not cost anything to try. My bundle was quite large and cost $75. It does take a while tho. 3. You can order DC Police employment records from the National Archieves. I did and got records from the beginning of his employment in the late 1890s until he retired in 1932. You might try this.
