    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Cedar Hill Cemetery
    2. Amanda Cook
    3. Hello all! A few weeks ago there was a discussion about the helpfulness of some cemeteries. I mentioned that Cedar Hill Cemetery had not responded to my written request for information about family members buried there. I'd like to let everyone know that today I received a wonderful reply from Constance Savoy, Family Counselor at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Her letter was very helpful. I take back any negative impression that I gave about the helpfulness of the staff at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Just wanted to set the record straight and give credit where credit is due!! I requested sacramental records for my husband from St. Dominic's Catholic Church in SW Washington where he was Baptized. I provided the name and date and they sent me a certificate of Baptism with notes on the back for Confirmation and Marriage (which were NOT performed at St. Dominic's); no notation for First Communion. My sense is, although not perfect, it is a standard practice. I don't think the rules change if only one person was Catholic. It would be interesting to know the answer. Please post the result to the board. Thanks and Good luck. Dottie Engemann Ormond Beach, FL

    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Holy Comforter Church
    2. My mother-in-law's mother was married to her husband first in Alexandria, VA in 1922 but they had to be "remarried" by a Catholic priest in 1926 before their first child could be baptized in the Catholic church (which happened to be Holy Comforter). The second ceremony apparently was to satisfy some requirement in the Catholic church; perhaps the Catholic church did not recognize the first marriage. My questions: Does the Catholic church keep a record of this "remarriage"? If so, is there a register, certificate, etc that could be photocopied? I would like to request such a record if possible. Thanks. Suzanne Collins Matson

    3. Brenda, "Guide to the Records of Your District of Columbia Ancestors" by Eleanor M. V. Cook says on page 31: "Reports of the DC DAR GRC contain three volumes concerning the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. IN Volume 75, the Journal of Trustees for the years 1806-1850 is transcribed and indexed. Volume 79 covers the years 1850-1873 and Volume 80 the years 1873-1908. There is an 1850 list of pewholders, a few tombstone incriptions in the Presbyterian Burying Ground in 1892 when the bodies were removed, and the ledger of the collector for the graveyard 1806-1822. All three volumes are indexed. For further information, write to the church and the records will be checked for you. Georgetown Presbyterian Church, 3115 P Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20007."
