    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Lenman family - circa 1900
    2. Elizabeth Revell
    3. I am trying to find out more about the Lenman family. I understand from another member of the family that John Lenman was a merchant in Washington. He was born there in 1822 and died there in 1892. His wife was Janet Ralston Hunter (I am a Ralston by birth) and she died in Washington in 1910. They had one child, a daughter called Isobel Hunter Lenman. She was born in 1848 and died in 1931, having never married. From a letter in 1907, I believe they lived at 1100 12th Street (I don't know whether that street still exists). I also understand they are buried at Oakhill cemetery (plot 0763). It would seem I know a reasonable amount but I am afraid I have no meat to go on these bones and that is what I am looking for. Could somebody help or advice me, please. I would like to know if there are any obits for these people; I would like to know what the gravestone says; perhaps there were wills; I am even wondering, if they were well-off, would there be some way of locating any society pictures/photos of them and who should I contact about that sort of thing. Thanks in advance. Liz, Leicester, UK

    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Zip Code Area
    2. Marianne Hofsheier
    3. Is it possible for someone to give me an approximate area covered by the DC zip code of 20010. The SSDI lists my father's death (William Buckley) as December 1967, zip code 20010. No other info. Have written to vital records 3 times for death certificate, but nothing available; also have written the majority of funeral homes and cemeteries in the area with no success. Having the zip code area might give me some small clue. Thanks. Marianne

    2. Barbara Johnson
    3. Your local library can order it, if it has micro film readers. I just sent the 1870 back a few days ago. It took the library about 2 weeks to receive it. If you know the district it would be easier to go through, I didn't and had to order all five reels. Barbara Johnson

    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Edward DAVIS, shoemaker in 1840-1860s DC
    2. Hello, I'm looking for any information on an Edward DAVIS who was listed in the DC City Directories between 1845 to 1865 as a shoemaker. Membership records of Dumbarton Church, Georgetown, DC indicate there was a Mary Davis whose name was first recorded June 16, 1822 (age 9), daughter of Edward DAVIS of Bridge Street, Georgetown. In the 1876 DC City Directory there was a Lucy A. DAVIS, widow of Edward DAVIS. There were also a James W. DAVIS and an Eli DAVIS, both shoemakers, listed in the DC directories. Were all these DAVISes related? If anything rings a bell please drop me a line. Thanks. Joe Collins

    3. Noreen, members of the public are not permitted to wander the stacks at the Library of Congress. What you need to do is call the Local History and Genealogy Reading Room at LC and ask if one of the reference librarians would be willing to help you locate the volume in question. Jane Donovan

    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Library of Congress look up
    2. My grandmother's side of the family had the Book of Morman that was the very first one printed- I believe this would have been about 1830. My cousin had it rebound and put it in the Library of congress during Ezra Taft Benson's term as Sec. of Agriculture in the 1950's. I would like to know if it is till there. She has passed away and I have not yet in my genealogy searching traced her stepchildren. I am not sure what the inscription would be, although my gggrandmother was living near the Kirtland, Ohio, area. I have gone on-line and checked the catalog, but the closest edition I could find was a second edition in 1832. If someone has time and likes to wander the library, I would appreciate any type of lead. Thanks ahead of time. Noreen in Oregon
