Hi, everyone! Happy Fall! Wondering if anyone would have access to or could tell me how to find any information on a gal named Attie E. Maguire who is in the 1880 DC Census with my great great aunt and uncle? She is listed with Thomas F. Maguire and Martha. She is 6 years old at this time. Is there some way to find marriages after 1880? She may have married and I would guess after 1890 or so. Would like to locate her again and I don't find her in my copies of early 1890 DC City Directories. Any thoughts from you fine folks? Best regards, Elizabeth Culhane Fairport, New York
Carolyn, please email me privately. I ran into some material that I think will be of interest to you re the Travers, but I can't find your email. Jane Donovan

I am looking for Ralph John SCHERR. I am guessing he was born between 1895 - 1905. I have next to nothing on information for him. He is my G Grandfather. I was told he was an opera singer and than traveled to Europe when he was caught up in the Holucaust. I have some suspicions that this may not be true. Any information is appreciated. Can anyone tell me how to contact the Soldiers and Sailors Historical and Benevolent Society. I have a copy of a certificate from them, dated March 1913, that gives a complete account of my Gr. Gr. Grandfathers role in the Civil War. The address is just shown as Washington, DC. Does anyone know if the society still exists. Thanks in advance for your help, Donna in CA
Hi: Is anyone researching McKay in the DC area? I'm trying to find my unknown McKay who married my great aunt LuLu Jones around 1920-30. Thanks Deb

Hello, I just received a photocopy of an article of the family of Addison L. Davis who was b. in Fredericksburg, Va in 1812 and whose family lived in Wash, DC. The article was published in 1924 in the Rambler a newspaper of Fairfax Co., VA. It tells of his wife and children and their families, etc. The photocopy is very light quality, but if anyone is related to this family, and would like a photocopy, I would be glad to do that and mail it to you. I have a Davis family in that area and when I saw an index indicating "a brief history of the DAVIS family" I took a gamble and ordered a copy from the Fairfax Co. library. It was not my family after all, but maybe with someoneon the list this name will ring a bell. Joe

Trish, If you're familiar with the Family History Centers, you can order the films for these years of "Boyds City Directory". I do have a list of the film order numbers. Marianne, If you could get a copy of the city directory for that year, it would give you an address. The SSDI lists my father's death (William Buckley) as December 1967, zip code 20010. No other info. Have written to vital records 3 times for death certificate, but nothing available; also have written the majority of funeral homes and cemeteries in the area with no success. Having the zip code area might give me some small clue. > > Thanks. > > Marianne > > ============================== > Search over 1 Billion names at Ancestry.com! > http://www.ancestry.com/rd/rwlist1.asp

During the mid-1900s, a Washington, DC address with a zip code did not necessarily mean the individual physically lived in Washington, DC. I grew up in Prince George's County, MD, and our mailing address was Washington, DC and a zip. The current zip code map in the front of my Verizon yellow pages shows the zip code 20010 to be in an area of NW Washington DC bounded by Rock Creek Pkwy to the west, Quincy Street to the North, Park Place to the east, and Irving Street to the south. But, as someone has already mentioned, the zip code boundaries change over the years. Barbara
Marianne, I don't know the physical area covered by the subject Zip Code. Just a word of caution; you really need to know the area covered in 1967, not just today. Zip Code areas do change, particularly with population shifts in metropolitan areas. Just my two cents. Bob Sistek
