    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] My g gdad was Wm. Huddleson & my 5xg gdad was Wm. Huddleston were they related?
    2. Deborah Jaquiss
    3. ISO of Huddleson's/Huddleston's I am a descendant of Huddleston's and of Huddleson's. We haven't connected them yet but with your assistance I'm willing to bet we may. Depending on whether you start from my grandmother's father's line or her mother's line (they were first cousins once removed) William Huddleston 1702 Bucks, PA - 3 Aug 1776 Bucks, PA and Dorothy 1704 PA - ? were my 5x or 6x great grandparents descended from DeNeville's in Cambridgeshire. This same grandmother married William Everett Huddleson 1781 PA - 3 Nov 1846 Montgomery, MD, my grandfather. Obviously we have some of the same ancestors. I am wondering if you are willing to share your information with me? I would love to know where you obtained some of your information and if all the generations you have posted on rootsweb are complete? Since I don't see my grandfather's parents' connection or his grandfather on your descendancy charts. I have information that none of you have and on the Huddleston side I can connect it to yours but I am missing the connection between my Huddleson's and the Huddleston's if there is one. Also, I am wondering if anyone is in touch with any of our English ancestor's relations that might have remained in England? With my father's family I am finding that having my English cousins working on our genealogy is a tremendous assist. Please respond soonest so we can find out if we are cousins and if so, of what degree of cousinship!! Deborah JAQUISS

    1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Ella (Ellen) Marie CROWLEY, b. 1890, D. C.
    2. Kathleen Bowen
    3. Hi List, A few months before my mother passed away she pulled out the memory book from her mother's funeral in 1974. One of the attendees who signed the book was "Ella M. Hurley." Since HURLEY is the maiden name of my maternal grandmother, I asked if this Ella was related to them. She said she knew that she was related, but not sure how. She believed that the DONEGANs (grandmother's maiden name), HURLEYs, and SHEAs were somehow connected. Mom was pretty ill and had trouble recalling the connections. Well, when I was looking at that memory book again recently, I decided to see if I could find Ella HURLEY at Rootsweb. I did find her on the SSDI. I decided to order her SS-5 and I received it in today's mail. Here is what it shows: Full name you use in work or business: Ella Marie HURLEY Full name given you at birth: Ellen Marie CROWLEY Date of Birth: Oct. 23, 1890 Place of Birth: Wash., D. C. Age on last birthday: 71 Sex: Female Mother's full name at her birth: Johanna SHEA Father's full name: Patrick J. CROWLEY She didn't fill in "Today's Date." Her address is shown as: Ella M. Hurley 4208 Yuma st., N.W. Washington 16 D. C. Here is what I have on my materna; grandmother's parents: My grandmother was Ella Elizabeth DONEGAN, b. 16 Feb. 1893, d. 8 Oct. 1974, m. 22 Nov. 1912 to John Samuel DRURY. Her parents were Mary Ellen HURLEY, b. 1858, Ireland (poss. in Co. Cork; the 1900 DC census simply states Ireland), d. ?, and John Dominic DONEGAN. John was b. 1858 in D. C. according to the 1900 DC census. I have photos of Mary Ellen Hurley, John Dominic Donegan, and Ella Donegan Drury at my FTM site; the URL is under my email addresses below. John Dominic DONEGAN's parents are Ellen SHEA, b. ?, d. before 8 Feb 1912 and Michael DONEGAN, b. abt. 1822 in Co. Cork, Irleand, d. 8 Apr 1915. I know of two other sons of theirs: Jeremiah Donegan and Patrick Donegan. It may be that this Ella M. HURLEY is a spouse to a HURLEY relative and, if that were the case, I would love to know the full name and data on her husband; but, because her mother is a SHEA, she may be related to our DONEGANs. I would love any info from anyone who recognizes her or has info on her parents. 1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Gonzaga Students . . .
    2. Has anyone contacted the Gonzaga College High School concerning ancestors who may have been students there? I have contacted several different people at the school in search of my gr-grandfather. Unfortunately, each time I've tried this, the person wasn't able to help and passed me on to someone else, who was unable to help. Surely, there is someone at the school who can help. Have any of the listers had luck with someone or a department at the school, in this area? Bob Thompson Harrisburg, PA

Any relation to Joseph Gibson who married Hannah Brumley. Joseph was supposedly born in England. In Delaware before coming to D.C. (we think). They were married April 14, 1818 in D.C. Two known children at this point: Johanna Elizabeth Gibson born about 1819 married Alfred B. Claxton in 1840. She died March 31, 1853 in D.C. They had four children. James Staughton Gibson born about 1825 died March 1846 in D.C. My connection comes from Hannah Brumley. Her sister Jennet was my ggg grandmother. Thanks, Margy Researching in D.C.: Miller, Becker, Steiner, Brumley, Daly, Attridge, Beardsley, Ridenour, Gieseking, Dante, Purdon, Rutherford, Gibson, Butler, Niland, Gaither.

    3. Hello all, Let me introduce myself as a new member of the list. My name is Joe Elliott, I was born in Wash DC in 1952, and now live in Kansas. I have only recently joined the Wash DC Historical Society, but been unable as yet to get back to do any more hands on research there. My family surnames are almost entirely from Wash DC and surrounding areas, like Alexandria VA and Charles County MD. I am interested not only in my family's roots in these areas, but also in the associated history. I'd be happy to answer specific questions, and in the meantime here is a quick breakdown for me: Wash DC - ELLIOTT, DAVIS, GIBSON, SLATFORD, BRIDGETT Charles County MD - BRIDGETT, PARKER, DUNNINGTON, BURCH, MURPHY, McDANIEL Alexandria VA - ELLIOTT, AVERY, SLATFORD

The main difference between DC and smaller places that I've lived is that the DC area is the only place where I've been advised to keep ANYTHING that even LOOKS of ANY value out of the interior of my car. (I've never owned any expensive-looking vehicle. When I got this advice just after moving to the DC area in 1985, I was driving a ratty-looking 1977 Buick.) Elizabeth Whitaker evw2@bellsouth.net

    2. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Mt. Olivet was vandalized by students from a nearby, respected university. So the vandalism in this case was not the result of gangs, drug users and dealers, or persons of a similar nature. I've lived in the Maryland suburbs of DC all my life, and like any large city, there are parts of DC you only travel to in daylight hours or with someone else. I've driven through most areas of DC at some time or other, and have had no problems with anyone--but I'm still very careful as I would be in New York, LA, Chicago, etc. Barbara
