    1. RE: [WashingtonDC'' ] On line help
    2. William Boswell
    3. For starters, you might want to check to see if the person is buried at Congressional Cemetery. It is the only cemetery website in D.C. with vast resources on persons buried there. You can find them at www.congressionalcemetery.org and select On-Line Collectons then select Obituaries & Death Notices. You'd be surprised at how many ancestors you might have buried at Congressional. Many I had been looking for are buried there. If the person isn't buried there, you might want to email the D.C. Public Library and see if they will look up the obituary for you. I'm not aware of fees or this service at all since I always looked them up myself when I lived in the D.C. area. Isn't the 1930 Census great? -----Original Message----- From: teresa farrow-welker [mailto:tkfarrowwelker@msn.com] Sent: Friday, June 21, 2002 11:07 PM To: WashingtonDC-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [WashingtonDC'' ] On line help Is anyone aware of on line death info for D.C? 3. Jan, Just to let you know, you may be looking for the Poston family, that has the famous Tom Poston. Tom is the tall, dry humored, side kick that stared with Bob Newhart. My late mother-in-law, went to High School in the District of Columbia along with Tom Poston. That would be just before W.W.II, the late 1930's. Good luck finding them I wonder if Tom ever has his biography written, that may include family? In the Index to District of Columbia Wills 1801-1920, by Provine there is: Fielder B. Postone, probate 1856, box 25. Maybe it will help in your search to add an e onto the surname. Good Luck, Helen > Hello, > > I am hoping someone can help with this Poston family. 1. [WashingtonDC'' ] Obtaining Birth Certificates
    2. rjfelts
    3. List: I just discovered three ancestors who were born in Washington, DC and decided to ask this list for advice about obtaining more information. Specifically, I know that all three ancestors were born between 1933 and 1940. I also have the name of each ancestor along with the names of both parents. Here are my questions: Can I obtain birth certificates for the three? If so, which agency should I contact? What's the cost? Do I need any special forms or will a letter be sufficient? Do I need to furnish any proof of my identity (like a driver's license) or any proof of my relationship to the three people? Can I request a birth certificate that is only a simple copy (not embossed) for genealogical purposes? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Dick Felts Penfield, New York

    3. Most of the newspapers are on microfilm and they are 15 cents each. I don't know if they charge for the service. The Evening Star begins at 1852 and The Washington Post begins at 1877. The Washington National Intelligencer precedes the Star. Ancestry.com is in the process of transcribing old newspapers, but have not gotten to D.C. papers yet. When that day comes, we won't have to deal with old microfilms that are hard to read. -----Original Message----- From: Bice, Nancy [mailto:nabice@venable.com] Sent: Thursday, June 13, 2002 2:28 PM To: WashingtonDC-L@rootsweb.com Subject: RE: [WashingtonDC'' ] Washington DC Newspapers The DC Public Library has newspapers on microfiche dating back to the 1800's. I would love to contact Joan, Charles E.or Henry if the are still living, or their children. Donald E. is my grand-father and these are his sister & brothers. Charles Lynn Casterlin suppost to have died in 1931, I have not been able to find any records of this. This listing is with his second wife, have not been able to find her name. They married after 1920, most likely 1923-24. Donald Edgar Casterlin must have been visiting his father during the census, because he lived in west Texas with his mother. Charles E & Henry would have been born between 1926-1930. This is the only information on my mothers aunt & uncles I have. I have ancestry information on Charles Seeley Casterlin. Charles Lynn Casterlin was an accountant, worked for a bakery in the 1920 census, can not read were he work in the 1930 census. There is a chance Joan may have been in Florida in 1971 when Donald died. My mother thinks she might have talked to her, but does not remember that time very well. I need Charles Lynn Casterlin's death record, estate papers, obit & second marraige record. Also birth records on his other children. Lisa
