My great great grandfather, Philip L. BROOKE, was a co-founder of the Eldbrooke Methodist church, 4100 River Rd., Wash., DC. I recently found this information on Interment.com, along with burial records for many of my BROOKE, LEVIS, and RILEY relatives. Does anyone know if the records for this church are available? Thank you. Ann Chandler in Oregon
I am trying to locate a family member who moved to Washington D.C. and was born in Alpena,MI in 1888?. Can anyone find him in the Census for 1920 or 1930, not sure if he got married or had any children. Thanks for any help. I haven't been able to find anything on this relative. Hope someone can help me find him. Marg Dust
The DC-OLD-NEWS-L@rootsweb.com list has an interesting article on Eldbrooke Cemetery in Tenleytown. The article refers to a web site of the interment list: http://www.interment.net/data/us/dc/wash/elderbrook/tenley.htm Hope this helps someone. Could SKS please do some cemetery look-ups for me. I am sorry, but my library does not have any cemeteries books for Montgomery Co. or the Washington D.C. area. Dorothy Abbott b. March 15, 1908 d. July 3, 1933, her death certificate says she is buried in Washington D.C. but gives no cemetery. Merle Jesse Abbott b. Dec-5-1902 d.Feb. 1978, I do not have a copy of his death certificate, but on the Social Security lists, it says he died in Rockville, Montgomery Co, MD. If someone could make me a copy of this death certificate, I will gladly pay for copying and mailing. I do not think they will be buried in the same cemetery as she died very young and he remarried. Hi, Looking for my DRURYs in the 1930 census, I found one that doesn't appear to connect to mine, but may be helpful to another. 1930 Federal census D. C. new to the list, looking for info on twins, Carlos (Charles) and Larue Collins, born 3 Mar 1899 somewhere in the D.C. or Alex. VA area. They married sisters, Ruth and Bertha Rannings. It is my understanding that they all moved to St. Petersburg, Fl. But I'm not sure when. Thanks for any help. shandi
I have a similar problem in looking for my great grandfathers death certificate in DC. I have an approximate time frame but not an exact date for his death. I am trying to narrow the time frame by first looking at all the family records and now looking through the city directories . My problem is confounded by his very common name, George W Taylor. I have the Church his daughter was married in ( Grace M E Church) and the fact he worked for the Post Office( J or K Avenue) . All these should provide clues. Perhaps if you make a list of everything you know about your subject, You will also find a way to narrow down the death date of you relative so you will not need to order so many films. Incidently:), my great grandfather Taylor died about 1919. (hehe) so if you happen to run across him my e-mail is agony-acres@msn.com Gee you never know Linda
I will try to make this as clear and to the point as I can..... John S Paxton was born 8 June 1814, census records say in MD. He married Hannah Barrow or Burrows 18 Sept 1837. She was from England. Together, they had Mary, Amelia, John William, James Walter, Matilda H, Emma, Samuel, Kate, Esa, Hannah, Everett, and Josias. At the time of the 1860 Census, Anna Burrough was enumerated as age 18. I am assuming she is Hannah's sister or neice who moved in to help with Hannah's last pregnancy. Hannah and the last son Josias died soon after the census was taken in June 1860. George s Neill born 1813 in VA and Sarah Ann ?? born 1818 in MD had 5 children in Washington DC. They were Sarah, M??, Susan, Leroy, and George. There is a possibility of a 6th child named Hannah. George Sr died in 1858. John S Paxton married Sarah Anne Neill 2 April 1861 in DC. They had only one child, Lewis Matthew Paxton born 1864. He married Ellen Delila Carroll in 1883. I have 2 pages of interrments for Oak Hill Cemetery showing many of the people listed along with children and spouses. Another name that is mentioned several times is Gayle/Gale. Both Paxton and Neill men had considerable holdings at the time of their deaths. This is a "nut-shell" version of the family, but I was really wanting to get in touch with anyone who might be interested in the same sir names. There are many questions and a few holes in my 'family pages', but I would love to share!! I also would love to find out who Sarah Anne Neill was. Clear as mud, huh??? Thanks for your time and efforts! Margo _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com

Is the DC Archives still the only place to obtain a marriage record between 1929-1931. I need the address and/or phone no. if anyone has this information. Thank you, GMBy
Thank you Jack - for letting us know about the wonderful D.C. death indexes offered at the FHCs - I will have to find one in my area and request the microfilm. There are so few resources available for purchase covering D.C. vital records (deaths, births, marriages, etc) that I wish it was offered in printed form - I certainly would purchase copies so I could refer to them as new names came up as I do with my other reference books. And thank you Dottie from Florida for also taking the time to alert us to the D.C. death record films available from the Latter Day Saints FHCs. Where I live there are absolutely no resources for information from the D.C./VA/MD areas. Very few "genealogy" books are available for inter-library loans - making it necessary to purchase what I can't do without or request microfilms from the various sources and begin a long wait for them to arrive. Oh how I envy researchers who live close to the large complete libraries - it would be wonderful to walk into the library and find everything you want immediately available. I appreciate the suggestion offered by D. Fox to check the SSDI but my ancestor (unfortunately) died prior to the beginning of social security. But I did find him listed a number of times on his children's applications (as father) - it's a great resource! I ordered quite a few to verify information back when they were still $7. Sincerely, Susan McIntyre

RE: This leads me to a question for the list. Has anyone ever dealt with D.C. Vital Records in an attempt to get a death certificate based on the 10 year census span? I have discovered that my great grandfather is listed on the 1920 D.C. census but on the 1930 D.C. census his wife is listed as a widow. I honestly am not sure how to discover when in that 10 year span he died other than paying the Vital Records department to search for it - I'm not even sure if they offer such a service or what the cost would be. All the other death certificates that I have requested I have at least had an approximate year and paid $12.00 for the copy. I do know that the D.C. library will not search the newspaper microfilms for an obituary without a specific date of death - and I have no idea which cemetery in which he would have been buried. Any suggestions??? Susan, You might try Latter Day Saints. They can order DC death record films for specific timeframes. It is time consuming and can be costly. Good luck. Dottie Florida
Are these index available on the internet. I am looking for a death that occured ofter 1930. Lisa
Question: These books all seem to overlap. If I wish to access certificates for 1916, for example, do I have to access TWO books? Thanks. The index of DC Deaths from 1916 to 1929 is on film # 1994621 at the Family History Center of the Mormons. Does the Family History Center have indexes of DC Deaths for other periods on microfilm? Barbara
