    3. When you refer to DC Archives, do you mean NARA or is there an Archives of DC records? If so, I would appreciate the web page or phone no. or mailing address. Are we only able to go down there and look up the information ourselves? I moved from the D.C. area recently and can only request by mail. Maybe they should start charging for the information. 3. Hi, I was told many a time by a number of people that they sent things by mail free. So, three times I requested copies of wills for DRURYs and I had the year and box numbers. They never responded. One of the times, I even made it to the attention of a particular person who was supposed to ALWAYS respond, even if it took a little while; well, that was about a year and half ago or more, Finally, someone pulled them for me (while there, I think). I had a bad experience at the Washingtonia Room of the MLK library downtown, too. I was there with my daughter and I had two objectives: the obit for my maternal ggrandfather, John Dominic Donegan and some research on POOREs in DC/Georgetown. There were two employees there. I asked for assistance in pulling the obit and the lady couldn't have been more rude. She remained seated in a chair and pointed in the general direction of some file cabinets. When I asked her specifically if it were indexed and some other info, she said I would have to figure that out! I walked out and went to GU for dame data - they were very helpful. I did receive a message from someone of some degree of authority from MLK when I wrote about it and that he could help me in the future. Well, since I can't get there too often, that isn't all that helpful... The web site address is: http://www.geocities.com/robyfamily/ The reunion in Salt Lake City is not until August of this year. The next reunion will be in 2004, but the time and place will not be set until this year in Salt Lake City. The Robey book by William Grafton Robey, Jr. has been upgraded onto a CD and the web site will tell you how to order one, and the cost. Deborah in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, USA

    3. Dear Margo, All this is amazing isn't it? What a discussion this has set off. I wish these local lists did this more often as the English lists do. If the answers are sent to the list it stimulates more discussion. And this is proof of it. Now to Burrows, we don't have much. Burrows are a very perpheral collateral line for us. We have them marrying into lines that married into our lines here and there. The individuals listed below have their generation numbers on the left. I don't have either of your Burrows but I do have a John S. Paxton but not who he married. Perhaps they are one and the same John Paxton? What do you think? The John S. 1. Re: [WashingtonDC'' ] 1st Pres. Church records?
    2. Sue Dotson
    3. Pam, According to "Guide to the Records of your District of Columbia Ancestors" by Eleanor M. V. Cook, the church had its origin as early as 1795 and the first services were held in a carpenter shop erected for the use of workmen engaged in building the Presidential Mansion, then in a frame chapel erected on F Street near St. Patrick's Church. In 1812 a church was dedicated on South Capitol Street, with President Madison among its contributors. The book continues with the history of the church throughout the 1800s into the 1900s. Nothing is ever mentioned about it being called "St. Andrews." The records for the First Presbyterian Church are at the DAR Library. I know you wanted 1795-1812, but unfortunately this book says the records don't begin until 1841. 3. Dear Chuck, Thank you for replying. No, I have never heard of Richard T. Robey or his wife Sarah E. Scott. The Robey's who married into our family were from Merryfield, Fairfax, VA and had many children. I would be happy to discuss and share our Robey information with you if you would share yours. The first Robey to appear in our database is Elisha & his unknown wife who had ten children: James born 1787, John, Charles, William, Wheeler, Hesekiah, Millie, and three unknown to us. James is the only one we have further information about. James married Mary Frances unknown and had six children. Descendants of this Robey family were residents of Fairfax County, VA and some came to Washington, DC circa 1893 where they settled in upper NW. I have been told that the area they settled was even called Robeyville at one point. If you are interested in exchanging information about Robey's please contact me on or off list. 3. Dear Ann, We have transcribed many of them but unfortunately only for a certain period of time. We also, have a lot of information about many of the Tenleytown families that intermarried for generations. Including a sketchy descendancy chart for Philip L. Brooke 1821-1903. We have a copy of the Tenleytown book and can do look-ups or tell you where it can be purchased. We have contacts in the area who do or have done research. Unfortunately, the church burned twice so I don't believe there are too many records still in existance and the congregation is minimal at this time so the church itself in its present incarnation may not be around forever. However we do have copies of two different Eldbrooke Church anniversary pamphlets/booklets. We are related to Bohrer, Huddleson, Riley, Robey, Shoemaker, Walther and more. We also, have relatives in OR. Please get in touch if you are interested. Plus, have you seen the information about the Methodist Cemetery next to Eldbrooke Church? If not since there are members of your family buried there you may want to know about it prior to the meeting this Saturday. Please contact me if you would like to exchange information. Deborah in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, USA snip>>> My great great grandfather, Philip L. BROOKE, was a co-founder of the Eldbrooke Methodist church, 4100 River Rd., Wash., DC.
