These are Episcopalian churches with St. John in the name. W.W. Chambers is based in Silver Spring, MD, which is near Mt. Ranier, but pretty far away from Pomonkey. Hope this helps. Hello all I just recently discovered that ancestry.com has a Washington Post database. It only has a few years in the early 1900s but I have already found out a treasure trove of info. about my family from DC and it took no time at all. The actual articles can be viewed online!!! You need a Newspapers subscription to view the items, but I have found it a good investment. I know there was some discussion in the past about how to access the Post - thought this may be helpful. ALSO: Does anyone have a relative who was involved with the Terra Cotta train wreck of 1905?? It appears that my GGGrandfather's brother was the engineer of the unfortunate train that was struck from behind. I only found this out by searching the Post!! Hi All---I'm just starting my husband's paternal side and need HELP!!!!! My fa-in-law Lyon is a child of John Bennett Lyon, Sr. born ~1879 in Charles Co.,Maryland (tobacco district?), worked in Washington DC as the Battalion Chief of the DC Fire Dept., and died ~1959 in probably DC or Maryland. He is found on the 1930 Fed. Census in DC in Precinct #10, track 16 with his 2nd wife Rose (M.?) Kennedy-Lyon (33 yo); a son from his first marriage named Sidney Bennett Lyon 23 yo; a daughter Frances Colleen Lyon 4+ yo; and my father-in-law John Bennett Lyon, Jr. 3+ yo. All of his children were born in DC. John Lyon Sr's parents were born in Maryland according to 1930 census. Rose K. Lyon was born in Baltimore, Maryland and her parents are listed as born in N. Ireland. John Lyon's first wife (Sid's mother) was probably a ? Heitmueller/Huettenmueller born in TX. There were NO other children born to this couple. Now, according to my fa-in-law, his father (JB Lyon, Sr) had siblings: 1) Andrew Lyon <Maybe Andrew J. Lyon aged 52 in the 1920 Census, married to Nellie 40 yo---with dau Eva J. Lyon-Holt (22) and son-in-law Goerge Holt (28), Dau. Freida Lyon (19) and son Noah Lyon (15).> 2)"Teegle/Tickle/Tikel????" Lyon---NOTHING on him 3)"Buck" Lyon---William H. Lyon; 46 yo in 1920 and also a fireman---married to Grace M. (32 in 1920). They never had children, but a nephew William J. Lyon (16 yo) is living with them in 1920 (I wonder if #2 above died young and left child/children) 4)Bertha Lyon---Buried in the Arlington Cemetary as she was in WWI in the first women's corp. 5)"Big" Noah Harris Lyon---married Rose Kennedy's sister, Mamie Kennedy. He made and lost a fortune as he held a franchise for bullet-proof glass and puncture-proof tires. He had at least one child , Noah Harris Lyon, Jr. and a daughter (I think). Alot of this info was given to me by my fa-in-law. He also remembers a few more things. 1) He believes JB Lyon, Sr's father was a GEORGE LYON. 2) JB Lyon Sr. grew up very poor and as a child, he lived in the Tom Brown area of S. Maryland and had a 6th grade education. 3) He remembers travelling once a year to Marshall Hall and visiting relatives. 4) JB Lyon Sr. rarely travelled outside of Maryland. 5) JB Lyon Sr's father George was educated and he believes that he was a school teacher. Well---for a man who said he didn't remember much about his family...he did dang well I think! If any of this is familiar, get in touch please. Patricia Lyon

Everett SCOTT and Carrie Belle FOXWELL married August 25, 1886 in the Assistant Epiphany Parish in DC. Everett was 28 and Carrie was 27. Everett was 2 in the census of 1860 and 12 in the census of 1870. He was born in Prince George' County in MD, and Carrie was born in Somerset, MD. In the census of 1880 in DC Everett Scott was a 22-year old Steward in a hotel run by his oldest brother John B. Scott. On the marriage license, Everett was listed as a clerk in the Howard House. I am trying to connect Everett as the youngest child of John Watkins Scott and Lucinda BENSON. There were eight other children of this couple besides John B. and Everett. Everett and Carrie had an infant that died on them in 1886/1887. On May 5, 1890, they had my grandmother at 506 Rhode Island Ave. in DC. In the census of 1900, this 10-year girl was staying with her grandmother at 704 Q Street in DC. The grandmother's name was Alice M. Foxwell. I am trying to find out when Everett and Carrie died. Any help would be appreciated. John in Tennessee

If SKS has any information about the following families I would appreciate them contacting me. I have some collateral line information on these families and their descendants. It would be wonderful to exchange information. I notice that many of you that have posted on rootsweb have information that I don't have but that I have information that you don't have. I should like to explore our connections and swap information. I have Huddleston's (I have found this family spelled Huddlestun in some family databases on worldconnect.rootsweb.com) in two family lines from PA from circa early 1700s (some at least in Bucks County, PA). I have Huddleson's the first of which was born circa 1780/90 in PA & came to Montgomery County, MD and Washington, DC in another line that may or may not tie into the first line. William, Hannah, Henry and George were prevalent first names in our Huddleston/Huddleson families. Here are the film Nos. for the DC Death Index: 1994618 1874-1882 1994619 1882-1900 1994620 1900-1916 1994621 1916-1921 2020341 1930-1943 2020342 1944-1949 So much has been written on this site about the DC Archives I can't imagine anyone on this list not being aware of it. Anyway, it has some of the original vital record documents such as birth certificates (1874-1921?), death certificates (1874-1934) and marriage license applications. Located at 1300 Naylor Court NW Phone 202-671-1107. Jack

There is no DC Death Index after 1947 that is available to the public. The original death index books are, or used to be, available at DC Vital Records at 825 North Capital St. NE. They are in such bad condition that I have not tried to use them in recent years. The microfilms are more convenient. Other than the FHC, the DC Archives have copies of the microfilms. I don't know about the MLK Library. Jack
I am planning to go to Washington, DC in 2 weeks for research and I am wondering if there is a place there where I can search a Washington DC death index. I know that LDS has it on microfilm to at least 1949 but I don't know about after that. I see the FHC is in Maryland so I won't be getting there. I can get the 1944-49 microfilm sent to my local place but I wonder if there is some place in the city that has an index, like maybe the Martin Luther King Library? It is hard to believe that you need to go to the suburbs to look at a DC death index. Richard Malatzky
