    1. Marriage look-up late 1870s
    2. Elberta Ramos
    3. Hello, I'm looking for a Washington DC marriage pro ably in the late 1870s. Alice E. Riston (Ritson) to a Gibson. The 1930 census indicates she was 19 at the time of her first marriage, which I calculate would be about 1876. By the time of the 1880 census she is already a widow, not leaving many clues as to Mr. Gibson's first name. Alice had a son Charles "Henry" Gibson and I have found a Henry Gibson (b. ca 1855) living in Georgetown in 1870, but don't know if there is any connection. Appreciate any help, Elberta __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

    3. Cecile, If you know where she is buried, then by all means contact the office at the cemetery and ask for copies of the burial records. This will give you a lot of information, including the name of the funeral home. Then contact the funeral home and ask for their records, which will give you even more than the cemetery has.....cause of death, name of the attending doctor, her address, who paid for the funeral.....maybe even a copy of her obituary is on file there (and if not, it will give you the burial date, so you can search newspapers between the date of death and date of funeral to find it.) I suggest you also try to obtain a copy of the marriage license. There is info on there, too....like parents, current occupation and residence, etc. Just a note about researching this woman.....anything within the last 50-100 years is subject to all these new privacy laws. In order to obtain information, they require that you be next-of-kin. But you can get around it by having one of your sons do the requesting for you. You might have found something I see there is a "Margaret" she did have a sister and I did meet her. I'll run this by my son maybe he can get his dad to open up or at least give him a copy of her death cetificate. If he has a birth certificate, also. Yes Mozella being an unually name I thought I'd be able to find it. I even know where she is buried. Again more than you know thank you... Cecile cecile/sis ============================== New! 3. Cecile, First and foremost, get a copy of her birth and death certificates. These documents contain huge amounts of data, including the names of parents. To know where to obtain them, go to www.vitalrec.com and click on "States & Territories." Then click on the state you are wanting. A page will come up with a chart that lists the vital records that state has, the fee if there is one, where to obtain it, and a link to download the request form if one is needed. If the state records do not have the document you are looking for, then try the county records. If you scroll down below the chart, there will be links to the county offices. The next thing would be to try census records. If she was born in 1928, she should be listed in the 1930 census. I found a Mozell Joyner, and with an unusual name like that I would think this is likely to be her: 1930 United States Federal Census, Wayne Co., NC, Goldsboro, District 12, Sheet 9B 9 Apr 1930 307/194/144 [Note: All were b. NC] Joyner, E. H. Head 35 M 21 Occ. Mechanic, Automobiles , Lucy Wife 30 M 17 , Ellie Son 9 S [possibly "Bilie", but first letter really looks like the "E" in "Edward" below it.] , Edward Jr. Son 7 S , Margaret Dau 5 S , Mozell Dau 1-11/12 S Hope this helps. 3. I think that's great and very thoughtful too!! I have been trying to locate a family photo of the HUNTT family who was born in Prince George's County and many of them moved to Washington in the 1890's. Somewhere there is a photo of many if not all of the brothers apparently taken at a family picnic or gathering of some sort. I'm guessing it was taken in the 1920's or 1930's from my mother-in-law's description. I was even wondering if it might have made the newspapers since they did have a lot of pictures during that time frame of various things but usually in the "Star" and I don't know of any place the "Star" is on-line and searchable. I've searched the "Post" via Godfrey. If anyone ever sees something, I would appreciate a yell! Happy Memorial Day all!
