Herdman is buried in the "King" family plot in Oak Hill Cemetery. I know of no connection to Jacob or Sue Herdman to the King family. Lot #775 was purchased 11/15/1869 and several members of the family were removed from elsewhere to this plot. Besides the Kings and their family members the only other person unknown is Elizabeth Culliver died 3/19/1888 age 65 y 2 mo and 7 days. The paper I copied from Oak Hill gave this info on Jacob D. From a 1912 Washing Post Ad: J. WILLIAM LEE, Funeral Director and Embalmer. Livery in connection. Commodious Chapel and Modern Crematorium. Modest Prices. 332 Pennsylvania Ave. N.W. Telephone Main 1385. a) I don't know if a funeral business is established at that address now that 'might' have the records, but ... b) I've seen suggestions that the Martin Luther King Library in D. C. may have records of defunct funeral homes. c) have you tried the D. C. Archives? Official records are available given a name and date of event generating the record. E-mail to [email protected] has always worked for me, with a response within 3 weeks (a couple of times it was more like 6 days). Note: there is a '.' between Robert and Nelson. Thanks to the helpful folks at Glenwood Cemetery, I now have the name of the undertaker who took care of Charles F. Robinson my (almost certain) g-grandfather. I'm still trying to verify that I have the right Charles F. Robinson. Does anyone know where to find records from the undertaker John William Lee? He was operating in 1902 as well as 1912 (when Charles died). Charles was buried in the same site as an 11-year-old girl, Sadie Robinson, who died in 1902. The name Sadie is not familiar, but the family had a daughter of the right age in 1900 named Maude with an initial that looked like a G. I'm hoping the undertaker's records, if they still exist, might clear up some of the mysteries. Susan in Missouri

I'm looking for information on my ggrandfather, Charles (Callen sp?) Chamberlain from DC. He was married to Clara Florida Sebastian and at one time they lived at 1506 - 33rd St. NW. He died Dec. 24, 1912. I haven't been able to find anyone in his family or why he died so young. Thanks for your help! Linda Cason [email protected]
His obit appeared on the 25th in the Wash. Post. It doesn't say anything , just calling hours at the home. Beloved husband of Clara. I looked several days ahead to see if there was an accident mentioned but didn't find anything. I checked the Washington Post around that date and didn't find any articles or obituaries. I even tried misspelling the name (Bemer, Beemer) with no results except for other people after 1900. Dear Mbousman, I could hug you! You have made my day and then some. Thank you so much for your research on the marriage of my grandparents. I had my grandmother's wedding ring that had the engraved date of April 2, 1902 - and we (my sister and I)had searched based on that. Again, thank you! Just a note: I found under vital statistics in the Washington Post - marriages - my great aunt and her husband in 1907. It even listed the ministers name. So then I was able to find out where they were married too. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
