    3. I have a subscription to Godfrey Library as well, but I'm uncertain as to what you are looking for. Are you interested in his obituary or something else. Here's one I found: MANSFIELD, WILLIAM R., of 3720 Upton st nw, on June 20, 1959, father of Mildren M. Austin and grandfather of James Robert Martin of Fairview. Mass Services at Chambers Funeral Home, 1400 Chapin st. nw, on Tuesday, June 23, at 10 a. m. Interment Washington National Cemetery. I recently found out the full name of my grandfather, William Robert Romeo Mansfield, born in DC 7 April 1886. William Robert is a pretty common set of names, but the Romeo makes it a little more unique. As I was searching Ancestry.com for information, I came across numerous references to a man with the same name, listed with publication dates of The Washington Post, ranging from 1904 to 1924. I don't have access to the newspaper records on Ancestry, and don't know another way to access Post data. I have the exact dates (examples: 5 Aug 1904; 6 July 1914), but they're too numerous to list here (about 30 dates). Does anyone on this list have access, and if so, would you be kind enough to look at a couple of these publications to see what information might be there? Or, if there's a way I can see the records, I'd appreciate knowing how. Thank you! Pat Patricia Rogers ============================== Search the US Census Collection. 2. I have a subscription to the Godfrey Library and checking the span of years from 1904-1924, by name, and then going to the results for the two full dates you mentioned, I got the same results as Sue Dotson. The name did not match, Mansfield might be one place in the article and William in another, the two not connected in any way. Even tried a search for that period for Romeo with no results. Sorry I couldn't help. Barbara

    3. I visit the post archives through Godfrey Lib, for a fee. another way depending on the date,it goes back to 1877, go to the Post itself, at the bottom of the page you will see archives and signing in is free. You can browse the the first few lines and if you want to download the article you can for about 4.00 dollars. Barbara __________________________________ Yahoo! I guess it must be Perpetual, but the second "p" was definitely a "t" instead which is what was throwing me, along with the fact that I wasn't sure of the first letter. I guess this was just a case of him not knowing how to spell correctly ;-) I sure do appreciate everyone taking the time to help. Thanks again! 3. You could try either of the following links and hope to get lucky that someone has already transcribed an article or articles of interest. http://www.newspaperabstracts.com/index.php http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/DC-OLD-NEWS/ You could also try the Washington Post Archives at http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/washingtonpost/search.html Searching is free and in some cases you can see a free 'preview' of the article. Full retrieval of the full article however costs. Details linked to the page. 3. Pat, I have the Post thru Ancestry.com....however I find that greatest percentage of the time it is not worth it. The way the index works (or doesn't work, I should say) is extremely frustrating. When searching for William Robert Romeo Mansfield, it does not know that you are looking for all 4 names in succession. It will pull up any article that mentions any of the names whether they are consecutive or not. For instance, the first one I checked for you was an article about a Shakespearean productions, and the highlighted words turned up in "'Romeo' and Juliet" and Richard 'Mansfield' in "King Henry V." The next article I checked was on the same subject, concentrating on an interview with Richard Mansfield. The third was an article on the sentencing of a driver for John W. Hunt and 'William' W. 'Mansfield', paint dealers. See what I mean? I think the chances of any of these articles actually being the man you are researching is probably very small, but if you are still in! terested anyway, just contact Ancestry. It is possible to add the newspaper collection to your subscription. Or, you could also go the Washington Post web site and pay to get articles from their archives. 3. My experience with newspaper clippings thru Ancestry.com (and I have told them so)is that while they may list many dates for one name you will find that in doing the search they have highlighted things on the page that hve nothing to do with that name. __________________________________ Yahoo!
