Portions of articles from Spokane Spokesman-Review circa 1925 on the backs of clippings: ....widow of the bandit, William E. WRIGHT, slain in a gun battle at Mobile after he stole $13,000 from a New Orleans bank and killed a policeman while escaping, yesterday made application at the local office of the United States veteran's bureau for the soldier's bonus she said was due her dead husband. Mrs. WRIGHT was released from the parish prison last Friday on $1000 bond on a charge of having part of the stolen money in her possession. The young widow's trial was called early last month, but on motion of District Attorney MARR for a change of venue was continued. ************* FATHERS IN CHARGE OF ENTERTAINMENT The fathers of the Emerson school parent-teacher association will have charge of the program to be given the following meeting.... CARMICHAEL had advised dynamiting the hole to avert a similiar tragedy. he contended that the place was so dangerous that it should be destroyed to prevent other adventurers from suffering a similar fate of death through exhaustion, starvation and thirst after being caught underground. DOYLE, who said he had received several good offers for Sand cave, objected to the dynamiting plan. he said that if the officials were going to do anything they should put the dirt back into the hole. The COLLINS shaft and lateral tunnel were dug by volunteer workers who are anxious to return to their homes as soon as COLLINS' body has been brought to the surface or efforts to recover the body are abandoned and he is buried there. There is little likelihood of the shaft and tunnel being filled up. It would takes weeks of labor to do it. ************
