Looking for any information on Verna (or Vernie) Brooks, daughter of James Nathaniel "Nat" Brooks, a goldminer and Merchant Marine. Verna was born in Colorado around 1906. I don't know who her mother was. Her father married again to a Georgia Phifer from Nebraska, who was a widow with a son named Jake Phifer. The family moved to Seattle, Washington by 1920. At this time, James' occupation was goldminer. Jake's occupation was house painter. Georgia was a housewife. Later, I found out, James joined the Merchant Marines. He divorced Georgia sometime during the 1920's. In 1929, James died in Jefferson County, Washington after his ship came to port and was buried there in a hospital grave with no marker. I haven't a clue what happened to Georgia, Jake, and Verna. Did Verna go with Georgia after the divorce? Did Verna marry? She wasn't listed as an informant on her father's death certificate. I don't know what happened to her. One of my aunts, now dead, said that the last time she had heard (probably in the 1950's), Verna was living in California, maybe San Francisco. But that was all she said. If Verna married, then I have no idea what her married name was. Therefore, I can't track her in California. Seattle is the last place I know she was before her father's death and divorce. Has anyone heard of any of these people, specifically Verna? If so, I would appreciate any help. Thanks. Duston Brooks
