The following is from the RITZVILLE JOURNAL--1905 George Seidel, died inthis city Septemeber 29th of typhoid fever, The deceased was a well known German farmer residing northwest of town, and leaves a wife and five children. The remains were taken to Sprague Saturday where the funeral was held fromthe Catholic church of which he was a member. My questions--Is there still a Catholic church in Sprague and if so, could someone do a lookup for me or give me an address for the church? I am trying to find out where he came from and what is wife's maiden name was. My grandfather, Edward Seidl, his youngest child and only son, was born around 1898. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Sandy St. Martin sstmarti@hotmail.com >> Sandy, You have a lot to work with just in the info you sent in your message. Here's where you might want to look: 1. Contact the regional archives for the county that George died in. They will have the original death record for him or will give you the contact for the agency that does. 2. Contact the regional archives for the county that Edward was born in for his birth records. They should show his father's name and origin and his mother's maiden name and her origin. 3. Contact the church for their records of George's death and for Edward's birth or christening. They may or may not have records, depending on the church. 4. Contact the newspaper for the birth announcement of Edward. 5. Contact the funeral home for the name and location of the cemetery George was buried in and for any records they may have. 6. Contact the cemetery for their records about George. You may be surprised at who might have purchased the cemetery lots if George did not himself. It could be a family member or close family friend that you don't know about yet.
