    3. Dear Dave, you wrote: >I too am related to the Longmires that moved to Washington Territory. I >have been told by my mother >that this little town was in fact originally owned by this clan of >Longmires. > My delving into the name LONGMIRE is for a friend instead of for my personal family tree. But that makes me no less interested in the research. We live near the mountain and plan a trip up there next week with the elderly descendant and her husband just so that she can see again the place to which her family history is so intimately tied. I am working on a tree for her and would appreciate knowing more about your great grandmother and her descendants. Can you please send your family data so that we can fit it in with hers. So far I have found James Longmire in the 1860 Census with wife Virinda and seven children, plus the eldest son Elcaine with wife and two young sons, also another son, David and wife. Then in the 1870 census there are four Longmire families, James and Virinda with the four youngest children still at home, Elcaine and Martha now have seven children, John A. and Sophronia have four children and there is a Joseph Longmire family that I did not see on the 1860 census. He is an older man and could be father or uncle to James Sr or even a much older brother. I did not find David and wife listed this time. 1. James Longmire Sr. and Virinda (2nd wife) 2. Elcaine Longmire and Martha (Speake) 3. Leo 3. Leonard 3. Emma 3. Maude 3. Susan 3. Benjamin 3. Washington 3. LaFayette Longmire and Alice (Wartman) 4. May, my friend for whom I am creating the tree 4. Joseph 2. David Longmire and Elizabeth 2. John A. Longmire and Sophronia 3. Richard W 3. Eveline 3. Mabel 3. Anna L. 2. Melissa Longmire 2. Martha Longmire 2. William F. 2. Robert 2. George 2. James Jr. 1. Joseph Longmire and Mary M. 2. Daniel 2. Joseph Fr. 2. James Elcaine was born to a first marriage of James Sr. and May descends through him and through LaFayette Longmire who was not yet born for the 1870 census. You might be interested in the Mt. Rainier National Park web site. James Longmire started a mineral spring resort up there and it later developed into park headquarters for the Rainier National Park. http://www.halcyon.com/rdpayne/mrnp-visit.html Hoping to hear from you with your family data. Anne
