    1. [WASHINGTON-L] Murder 1882
    2. I am researching the murder of John Westfall. He was shot by A.J. "Jack" Vincent, his brother in law, on 4 January, 1882, in a bar in Toledo, Washington. Westfall died in Portland Oregon several months later, on 7 October 1882. Vincent was tried for 1st degree murder. On 11 january 1883 he was in court. He was found not guilty of 1st degree murder on 2 February 1883 BUT he was found guilty of 2nd degree murder. He was discharged from custody on 24 September 1883. Vincent was also accused of assault with a deadly weapon while living in Cowlitz County in 1880. I am mostly interested in Vincent info but westfall info would be helpful, too. I have the court records of the murder for Vincent but I would like to flesh out the story with accounts of the murder and trial from the newspapers. Does anyone have any ideas of where I could start? I do not know if Vincent died in Washington state. He did live in Lewis County for awhile mailto:misha@memes.com
