Do you know this family?? I have included the sources I have found which have given me clues about my family. I'd love to hear from anyone researching this same family or who might be able to help me find more information about them! Thanks! Thomas M. V. DAWSON was b. abt 1838 in Hancock Co, OH, and d. aft 1891 in Whatcom Co, WA. (his name: Book of Story County Marriages published by the Iowa State Genealogical Society, and death certificate of William W. Dawson; year of birth: Jones Co, IA 1880 Federal Census; place of birth: death cert. of Wm. W. Dawson; year of death: last seen in city directories in Whatcom Co, WA in 1891). His parents may have been both born in Virginia (1880 Federal Census). He married Hannah Isabel HOSFORD on 27 Jan 1859 in Story Co, IA (Book of Story Co, IA marriages). Occupations: farmer, and mason (1880 Census, 1891 New Whatcom City Directoy). This family may have left Iowa abt 1887 and gone to California before arriving in Whatcom County, WA abt. 1888 or 1889 (obit of Thomas Schuyler). There is no information I have been able to find in Whatcom Co, WA which states the exact date he died. Hannah Isabel HOSFORD was b. in Aug, 1842 in Iowa (Jones Co, IA 1880 Federal Census; Bellingham, WA 1900 Federal Census; death cert. of Wm. W. Dawson) and she d. 6 Aug 1901 in Bellingham from LaGrippe (her obit). She lived with her widowed son, Thomas Schuyler in 1900 and 1901 (1900 Federal Census & her obit). She ran a restaurant on C St. at one time (1890 Whatcom City Directory). Her father may have been born in CT and mother may have been born in VA (1880 Federal Census and 1900 Federal Census). In 1900 Federal Census she states that she had 8 children; 5 of whom were living at the time. So, I am still missing one child's name, and information on either Manda, Nona or Archie as an adult. Their children were as follows: 1. William W. b. 1 Dec 1860 in Linn Co, IA (his death cert.), d. 27 Jun 1928 in Bellingham, WA (death cert.) of heart failure previously undetected (d.c.). He was the foreman of a steel gang on the railroad, but unemployed at the time of his death. His wife was a Laura A. (maiden name unknown). They may have been divorced at the time of his death (d.c.). He was living with Arminta Mary at the time of his death. I just found this gentleman, so I've just begun looking through the Censuses and other records in Whatcom County, WA for information on him and his family. 2. Arminta Mary (she signed her name Mary A.) was b. 10 Nov 1866, possibly in W. Branch, IA, but I haven't confirmed that yet (waiting to get her death cert.), she d. 21 Feb 1938 in Bellingham, WA (her obit). She married Henry Robinson WATSON on 17 Jun 1891, I think in Bellingham, but the Courthouse didn't have a record of it. Henry WATSON was b. 7 Jul 1861 in Co. Durham, England to Robert & Marguerite WATSON (date of birth: his death cert; place of birth and parents' names: History of Whatcom County); he d. 23 Mar 1941 in Aberdeen, WA where he was living with Clara WATSON JOHNSON (his obit; death cert; my grandmother, daughter of Clara WATSON JOHNSON). They had the following children: Grace b. & d. 1892 in Bellingham, WA (History of Whatcom County; Bayview Cemetery Records); Arthur Schuyler b. abt 1893 in Bellingham, WA, married and lived in the Seattle, WA area. Had two children that I know of, Jack and Virginia; Mary Inez b. abt 1895-1898 in Bellingham, WA, married Wilson J. BELL before Jun 1920 (Whatcom Co, WA 1920 Federal Census) who was b. abt 1893 in MI (1920 Federal Census), they lived for a time in Ketchikan, AK and had two or three children; Clara Isabel b. 25 Aug 1900 possibly in Victoria, BC, Canada, m. on 23 Aug 1920 (don't know if that was in Bellingham or Aberdeen, WA) Dewey Albert JOHNSON who was b. 19 Apr 1898 in Aberdeen to Wishkah pioneers Swen JOHNSON & Elizabeth HILL, they had three children, Henry Albert, Ruth Elizabeth & Clarence Watson; Henry Edmund "Ebbie" b. abt 1902 also possibly in Victoria, BC, married and lived in the Seattle area (and Mukilteo) but never had any children; Robert b. in 1908 and d. Nov 1908 (History of Whatcom County; Bayview Cemetery Records). 3. Viola May b. 12 Mar 1869 in Maxwell, Story Co, IA and d. 30 Dec 1944 in Bellingham, WA (her obit; Cemetery Book). She married in Bellingham around 1894 to William H. BURGESS who was b. 13 Oct 1866 in England. They raised a family in Bellingham: Lucile b. 1895 m. Charles ANDREEN (obit of Wm. H. Burgess; SSDI); unnamed baby b. & d. 1897 (cemetery book); Thelma b. 1899 m. Aubry DEETER (obit of Wm. H. Burgess; SSDI); and Clarence b. 1903 (obit of Wm. H. Burgess; SSDI; Whatcom County, WA 1920 Federal Census). 4. Manda b. abt 1871 in Iowa (1880 Federal Census). This is all the information I have on her. 5. Nona b. abt 1872 in Iowa (1880 Federal Census). This is all the information I have on her. 6. Thomas Schuyler b. 4 Dec 1874 (his death cert; his obit) or 4 Dec 1875 (Whatcom County, WA 1900 Federal Census) in Jones County, IA (death cert; his obit). He first married Miss Ella Parker in 1895 in Bellingham (his obit). They had one child, Geraldine, I believe (1900 Federal Census); she married a CARLSON and was living in Palo Alto, CA in Dec. 1939 (his obit). In 1898 Ella died. In 1900 (after the Census) Thomas remarried to Miss Etta Downs. She died in Jan 1937 in Bellingham (his obit). The DAWSON family moved after 1906 from Whatcom County to Okanogan, WA. There Thomas was an orchardist (his obit; death cert). Thomas and Etta had at least two other children: George B. who was living in San Francisco in Dec. 1939 (his obit), and a daughter who married John WILKINSON of Wenatchee, whom Thomas was living with when he died (his obit; death cert). Thomas died on 14 Jan 1939 in Wenatchee, WA of heart failure with circulatory collapse (death cert). He is buried in Concunully Cemetary in Concunully, WA (his obit; death cert). 7. Archie b. abt Sep 1879 in Jones County, IA. This is all the information I have on him. 8. According to Hannah in the Whatcom County, WA 1900 Federal Census she had eight children, but only 5 of them were living at the time of the Census. This eighth child may have been born between 1861 and 1866 or 1875 and 1879, or after 1880. Any help would be appreciated!
