Hello, again! Friday afternoon on the second day of my 3-day getaway from the kids, I drove to Bellingham, WA and spent the day at the library, courthouse and History Museum (including the Archives department upstairs!) Then earlier today I spent the whole day at the Tacoma FHC and the downtown Tacoma Public Library, and this is what I found (a LITTLE information and a LOT of questions!): In the 1890 New Whatcom City Directory: DAWSON, Hannah I, restaurant, C bet 14th and 15th, res same (Okay, so where was Thomas? What was the name of this restaurant? Did she own it or did she only live and work there?) In the 1891 New Whatcom City Directory: DAWSON, T. M., mason (Is THIS my Thomas DAWSON?? This is the only DAWSON with a T other than his son Thomas Schuyler DAWSON in the City Directories at least until 1906) In the 1900 Federal Census for Whatcom County: Dawson, Thos, hoh, white, male, b. Dec 1875, 24yrs, widowed, birth state IA, father's bs OH, mother's bs IA, occ. Salesman Depate? DAWSON, Jeraldine?, daughter, white, female, b. Jun 1896, 3yrs, single, bs WA, fbs IA, mbs IA DAWSON, Hannah I, mother, white, female, b. Nov 1842, 57yrs., widowed, # of kids ?, # of kids living 5, bs IA, fbs CT, mbs VA (okay, so Thomas Sr. was apparently dead by 1900, but where is he buried?? Hannah states that she has 5 children living in 1900?? I know of 3, who are the other two?? Hannah's death announcement in the paper in August of 1901 only states that she died at the home of her son Schuyler from LaGrippe which she contracted in the winter of 1900-1901. No other genealogical info. I couldn't read Thomas' daughter's name in the Census, but I knew from his obituary that he had a daughter named Geraldine who married a man named CARLSON, and the writing looked like Jeraldine). In another City Directory for Bellingham (ca 1916) there is a Harry DAWSON listed as the owner of a restaurant on C St. Could this Harry DAWSON be a child of Thomas & Hannah DAWSON? I am leaning toward the possibility that Hannah's maiden name was SCHUYLER. Her son Thomas had the middle name Schuyler, and her daughter Arminta Mary named her oldest son Arthur Schuyler WATSON. I was able to check the index for the 1850 Federal Census for the State of Iowa, and I found only ONE Schuyler family! A William SCHUYLER of Van Buren County (the city was listed as Village, I forgot to write the page number). Does anyone have access to the 1850 Federal Census for Van Buren County, Iowa? I don't because I'm home now, and the local library here has very little information available and I can't get to a FHC without travelling 80 miles each way. :-( I'd LOVE to find out if this William SCHUYLER had a daughter named Hannah who was approximately 7 years old in the 1850 Census. Oh yeah, I don't know about all counties, but at least Gray's Harbor and Whatcom Counties told me that I have to write to Olympia to see if there is a death certificate for Hannah. Okay, so here is the info I have on Thomas & Hannah Isabel DAWSON: Thomas DAWSON b. OH (prob. ca 1842) m. bef. Nov 1866 (prob. in IA) to Hannah Isabel (poss. SCHUYLER) who was b. Nov 1842 in IA The children I have: 1. Arminta Mary DAWSON b. 10 Nov 1866 in W. Branch, Cedar Co, IA; d. 21 Feb 1938 in Bellingham, Whatcom Co, WA; m. 17 Jun 1891 (I thought in Bellingham, but the courthouse had no record of it) to Henry Robinson WATSON (s/o Robert & Marguerite WATSON) b. 7 Jun 1862 in Co. Aubry DEETER?, d. 1988 in B'ham); and Clarence BURGESS (b. 1893 in B'ham, m. ???, d. 1983 in B'ham). 3. Thomas Schuyler DAWSON b. 4 Dec 1874 (or 1875) in Jones Co, IA; d. 1939 in Wenatchee, Chelan Co, WA; m1. 1895 in Bellingham to Ella Parker who died abt 1898; m2. 1900 in Bellingham to Etta DOWNS b. 19 Feb 1867 in WI; d. 1 Jun 1937 in Bellingham, Whatcom Co, WA. Child of Thomas & Ella: Geraldine B. DAWSON (b. Jun 1896 in B'ham, m. ? CARLSON & living in Palo Alto, CA in 1939). Children of Thomas & Etta: George B. (b. aft 1900 & living in San Francisco, CA in 1939); and an unnamed daughter married to John WILKINSON and living in Wenatchee, Chelan Co, WA in 1939. Can someone PLEASE help?!?! The family should be listed in the Iowa Federal Census for 1870 and 1880, but I have no idea where. Thank you!! Brenda Hbert
