    1. [WASHINGTON-L] Abandoned cemetery legislation hearing is announced
    2. Peter M. & Andrea D. MacDonald
    3. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL WASHINGTON STATE MAILLISTS, ALL GENEALOGICAL SOCIEITES, ALL HISTORICAL SOCIETIES Hello all, Many of you are already aware of new legislation protecting abandoned cemeteries being introduced into the Washington state legislature as HB 1951 by Representative Patricia Lantz (see my original message below). I received word from her yesterday that a hearing has been scheduled for THIS Friday - TWO DAYS FROM NOW! - at 1:30 in Olympia. I am writing to ask if there is anyone out there who will please attend the hearing and speak on the subject. Without the public showing up for this hearing, it will not be approved -- we must have several people there! If you can attend, please let me know. Everyone who wishes may make a statement or submit a handwritten statement to be read after the hearing. Especially interesting testimony would come from anyone who actually attended the Snohomish Cemetery Trial -- Carroll Clark, Evelyn, Glen Grace, Carolyn. I am also especially interested in anyone who successfully restored a cemetery -- Glen Grace, or anyone who is in the process of restoring a cemetery -- Dave Preugschat for one. Also, professional genealogists or genealogists aware of the problems surrounding primary records derived from our old cemeteries would be welcome to testify. Have a statement prepared before you arrive at the hearing. Representative Lantz would like to know how many people will be attendance so please let me know. >From Representative Lantz... Hello Andrea: This message is to advise you that HB 1951, has received a hearing date. It is: Friday, February 26, 1999 1:30pm HHR B - John L. O'Brien Building (The O'Brien Building is the building where my offices are located). Previous e-mail on this subject... > From: Peter M. & Andrea D.
