Louise, You offered to help out with Whitman County queries. I have two families that moved to Whitman County some time before 1900. The DAVIS family: Elias and Malinda DAVIS and their son Mark Randolph Davis, and (I'm told) other sons and daughters. They lived in or around St John, and the small community of Sunset for some years. I believe Elias and Malinda died there, but Mark and his wife Elizabeth Ann (HASTING) moved away - probably around 1920. The HASTINGS family (sometimes HASTING) were in Santa Rosa, Cal in 1870 but in Whitman County by 1900. They were: Hartwell Green HASTINGS and his wife Sarah, and at least some of their children: Elizabeth Ann DAVIS (mentioned above), Samuel Perry, Arthur Leroy, and Henry "Pleasant" HASTINGS -- and maybe some others. I have Sarah HASTINGS dying in Pine City in 1916, and her husband Henry somewhere in Whitman County in 1909. I have been told that most of the Davises continued to live in Whitman and Spokane County, or across the border in Idaho, and I suspect most of the Hastings folks did as well.
