Armistice means truce. President Woodrow Wilson's original proclaimation issued in 1919 ended with this sentiment: To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nation. Veterans Day. After World War II, Amercia's newest veterans needed their day also. In 1954 President Eisenhower changed the name to Veterans Day and called on all citizens to observe November 11 by remembering the sacrifices of all those who fought and to rededicate themselves to promoting PEACE These are just a few of the webpages and resources available ONLINE WEBPAGES FEDERAL http://gravelocator.chome.comcast.net/~suvcw1/em.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1 Department of Veterans' Affairs the Grave Locator search engine. http://archives.gov/veterans/military-service-records/get-service-records.html The National Archives for requesting service records. www.archives.gov The National Archives main page.
