    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/CCC.2ACE/2980.1 Message Board Post: From your posting on 1 Feb 2005: > My great great grandfather passed away in > Seattle, WA, around January, 1907... three of his > sons may have lived in the Seattle area... names > were Charles Bruce, James, and Alexander > MacKay. From posting on 28 Feb 2005: > Charles Bruuce Mackay, died in Seattle, > Washington in 1907. I am not sure which of his children settled in the state of Washington, ...My Mackay family lived in Ontario and Manitoba for many years before coming to the states... Charles also lived in Chicago (around the 1900's). If you are looking for genealogy information, you HAVE to identify reference points. For example, Charles Bruce Mackay died in 1907. Was he 21 or 91. He had three sons, I'm assuming Charles Bruce Junior?, James and Alexander. When were they born? 1902, 1903 and 1904? Or back in the 1850's. Were they born in Canada or the US? Did you obtain the obituary of Charles? Do you know to whom he was married? You have him in Chicago in the 1900's 1880 census had a 25 year old logger, born in Canada, living in Stevens Point, Portage County, Wisconsin. 1900: NO Charles MacKay in Illinois or Anywhere that was born in Canada. James B (see 1910) born Mar 1855 in Canada, immigrated in 1877, Wife was Emily Feb 1864, Laurence J May 1988, James B June 1892. Also at the house was Mable Defences(?) Niece, June 1890, her father born in Canada, mother in Minnesota. Walter, living in Spokane, born May(?) 1843 in Canada, immigrated appears to be 1854, Clara June 1859 born in Illinois, Donald Nov 1895 in Iowa. Also living in Whitman County was Johan MacKay, born in Canada in May 1844, immigrated 1869, parents from Scotland. He had children Gertrude, Harry, Elizabeth and Earnest, first 3 born in Iowa, Earnest in S. Dakota. Also was a Benjamin Mackay, born in Canada Sep 1874, living in Chehalis, WA. 1910: a James B. Mackay in Colfax, Whitman County, WA, born circa 1857. Married to Emily, son Joe 21, James B. Jr 18, and Bernard 17. This James was born in Canada, Emily in Washington to a father from Canada and mother in Minnesota. 1920 Census: James was not found, neither were his spouse or sons. He was not found anywhere in the US in the 1930. Walter was not listed. There was an Alexander MacKay, age 68, living in Tacoma, immigrated in 1870. His wife was Annie 63, born in Canada, Immigrated in 1859. Also living there was Helen Hoffman, Granddaughter, age 10, born in Washington. I checked the WA State Birth Index: A Charles WILSON Mackay was father to a William Thomas Mackay in Jefferson County in 1891. Note the Wilson middle name, probably not connected. A J. B. Mackay and Emily Woodman were parents of Mackey Mackay 16 Jul 1908 in Whitman County. This connects with James B and Emily above. There was a Mackey Mackey in the Pendleton City Directory in 1974. A J.E. Mackay and Clara Schaefer were parents on 9 Dec 1909 to a son. A James D.. Mackay and Sopha Robinson parents to a son 21 Nov 1907 Woman, with maiden name Mackay, Ethel, Maggie, Hilda, Audrey Laura, There was an Alexander Mackay, but he didn't parent until August 1982. That's all I could find with the availability of information you provided. Ron Bestrom

I live near all the Oregon record resources and make periodic trips those places for research. However, I think you might be able to get an answer either from posted records or from the archives staff by email. Another resource is the Willamette Valley Genealogical Society. They do this kind of research at the same records I can access. They have very good researchers.

Your first posting indicated his name was Corduis, now it is Cordes. Spelling is EVERYTHING in genealogy. You mispell a name and they may not ever be found. You must start at the local level and get ALL information and then move out to further locations. I checked the Tacoma Library Obituary listing "http://search.tpl.lib.wa.us/obits/" and find Walter C. Connelly, died in Tacoma, WA, on 9 July 1985. His obituary is listed on page B-13, on 11 July 1985 in the Tacoma Tribune (newspaper). That obituary can help, it just needs to be obtained via the microfilm at the Tacoma Library. You can do that from the website, or perhaps someone will download it for you at the library. The Social Security Death Index identifies that Walter was born 9 April 1922. If you are looking for information on his parents, the Social Security Number application will show his parents information and other information on where he was when he applied. His number 024-16-7056 was issued in MA. His Zip code where the last death benefit check was issued was 98444, not to far from me at 98443. There was no listing for Mildred in the library list, so from 1985, she may have remarried or moved. The 1930 US Census showed a Walter C. Connelly born in Massachusettes to Maurice Connelly 61 and Lillian P 45. Maurice was born in the Irish Free State, Lillian in MA to parents from Ireland. Siblings were Lillian P 11, Frank W. 9, Clara L 5 and Karl 1 year 5/12. They were living in Smith Hadley Falls, Hampshire County, MA. Is this the right family? The Pierce County auditor, county recorder showed two documents filed by Walter Cordes Connelly. One was a repayment of mortgage to McChord Credit Union. The other was a power of attorney to Katherine Louise Connelly. There are 7 documents in her name, two involve deeds to Lester W. McKim in 1986. One was an assigned deed of trust in 1998 and one in 2001 was a full payment for loan in 2001. I checked for obituary for Katherine L. Connelly and found none. There was a Katherine Williams Connelly, death 29 Dec 1997, obituary on 31 Dec 1997, page B-3. Katherine could be his wife or a daughter, or even the wife of a son. I checked the city directories (Polks) for Spokane and Walla Walla. Unfortunately, the Walla Walla directories ended at 1982. They may have continued in another series for the county, but I ran out of time. I found listings in Spokane for Jacqueline A., no spouse identified from about 1950. She was an Insurance clerk at the WA Trust Bank, an office secretary at the Russell Marshall Co, also office sec at the General Insurance Company. In all jobs she was living at W 2728 Sanson. The house was listed as being owned by Goldie Greenwood in 1960. In 1962ish, the house was owned by a Gaylord Hughes. I checked his personal info and found his wife was not a Jacqueline. I found Goldie living in Walla Walla in the 1975 issue. Also was a Ralph Dixon Greenwood and his wife Caroline. They lived at 323 Chase. It was interesting that Caroline worked as a seamstress at "Jacquelines", 6 W Main. I further found that the company was "Jacquelines Womens Clothing". It could be a coincidence that a Greenwood would be working at Jacquelines, but... Are you aware of a Ralph Dixon Greenwood? I checked Ancestry.com and found a Ralph Greenwood, born 19 Oct 1911, as son to Ed Greenwood and ! Lillie Maud Brown. In the 1930 Census, there was a Ralph Greenwood, living in Canyon, Chelan County WA, born circa 1909, son of Henry and Adelia Greenwood. Henry was born in North Carolina. In the Walla Walla Newspapers was 8 articles concerning Ralph. The first indicated he was an auto mechanic and was seen running out of gas hiking up the street with a gas can. The 2 July 1953 article indicated a boy was born to them on 1 July. In the 50's articles they lived at 528 Willow, in the 70's they lived at 323 Chase. Perhaps Ralph was a cousin, his father being a brother to John? I apologize for having little time in the library, perhaps soon again I can check.

He was with his wife Jacksa. In the 1920 census of Burley they are there also. But this time the wife's name is spelled Jaxa. They have a daughter Jaxa. In both Census records Angus is described as being born in NOVA SCOTIA. I am trying to prove that he is the same Angus VAUGHNN who was born 10 June 1867 in Steam Mill Village Nova Scotia, the son of John William VAUGHAN and Dorcas GREENLAW The Angus I am seeking left Nova Scotia to never return and family members say he died somewhere in Washington State. He is the brother of my husband's grandfather. I am almost positive the Angus VAUGHN in the 1920 and 1930 census of Burley is the same one. I find on Ancestry.com an index of a marriage in Victoria BC of Angus Vaughn and Jaxa Myrick in 1910. I am assuming that this is the same couple in the above 2 census records. In 1920 the daughter Jaxa is listed as 14. She would have been born about 4 years before the marrige of Angus and Jaxa. I see in World Tree a Jaxa Myrick having a relationship (either married and divorced or never married) with George Washington Perry. Out of this marriage a child Viola Myrick Perry is born who was raised by Jaxa's parents. Again I am assuming this is the same Jaxa who married Angus Vaughn. I also see that a Jaxa Perry married in 1894 in Gem Idaho to an Edward Kellegan. Again I am making the assumption that this is Jaxa Myrick who was married (or not) to George Perry and who later married Angus Vaughn. The 1920 census of Burley says the 14 year old Jaxa Vaughn was born in California. Does this ring any bells with anyone?
