    3. Thanks, Ron! I forgot to mention that I tweaked a couple more settings for the list: the digest will now be generated every 12 hours (instead of 18), and the size of messages accepted will be a bit smaller. From what I've seen on the list for the past year or so, I don't think this will affect anyone. If you try to post a really long message and it's bounced back to you, simply resend it in smaller parts. Also, I added a list tagline (which show up at the bottom of every message) to include my name and email address. I always welcome input from list members. We may not always agree, but generally things can be worked out. shirley :) Ronald Bestrom wrote: > ----- Original Message ----- From: Shirley > >> Hi, folks - I'm the new list admin > > > Congrat's Shirley ! -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Hi, folks - I'm the new list admin and I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Shirley and I'm a lifelong resident of Western Washington. I'm actually from Cowlitz County; my family has lived there since 1912. I presently live near Olympia. I have had lists on Rootsweb for several years and enjoy them very much. I occasionally travel and take the laptop along. On those trips, I've had wonderful experiences of actually meeting list members in various locations and put faces to names and screen names. Some very good personal friendships have resulted. One of my lists had a get-together a few years ago where we all met at a restaurant. That was a lot of fun and I hope to plan something similar this summer, inviting everyone from all my lists. I've found that a few folks like to travel to them. You will find that I'm fair but firm when I need to be. One thing I have changed is the list prepend. I've shortened it to WA-L to conserve space, especially for digest members. You must provide the clues. You provided: looking for Arvin Norman John Peterson, his father was John Peterson. He married "living" Finsen. Arvins's mother came to the states from norway. He was born March 28, 1910, died Sept 1973. His daughter-your wifes mother has the info... The 1930 census shows an Arvin J, age 20 born in Washington. He was the son of Anna A Peterson, age 47, born in Norway. Anna was a practical Nurse in private families. Other family members were Reuheul J (spelling?) 18, Elsie B 16, Rose M 14. They were living on 40th Street in Anacortes, Skagit County, WA. Anna immigrated from Norway in 1908. Arvin was a wood cutter. Now then...this was the easy part. Since Arvin's wife is apparently still living...(living finsen). You must get all of the information from her. You provided only basic, basic information. You didn't identify his mother's name, or siblings. Find out as much as you can from the family. Anna came from Norway, her family can be found. There is a mailing list "Norway" where the listers have a high percentage of finding people. Anna would have been in the 1900 census of Norway. She should be found in the emigration lists. She should be found in the Ellis Island lists or other lists. BUT, you HAVE to find out the basic info from the family first. Ron Bestrom

He was a farmer. Can't find them anywhere in 1920. The 1930 census for Rainier, Thurston Co, WA, had the family of Alex Yourex 54, Hattie 51, Lester 17 and Neta 15. Alex was born in Canada, Hattie in Michigan. Alex was a farmer. Washington Death Index shows Alexander died on 13 Jun 1946 in Seattle at age 70. Lester died on 13 Jun 1973 in Shelton, Thurston CO. Washington Birth Index shows Lila Maude Yourex and Clarence A. Roberson became parents of Alton Duane on 1 June 1919. If you go to the Thurston County Auditor's website http://www.co.thurston.wa.us/auditor/Recording/icris_intro.htm (in the middle of the first page, click on "Click Here to Enter our Virtual Vault"), then click on the "I Acknowledge" on the next window. Then use the Login name of "guest" and the password of "guest". Then in the record search, just enter the name of "yourex, lester". You will see there was a deed with Lester and Elsie, that is probably his wife. The deed was probably recorded in their names prior to his death. The transfer is to a Charles and Diane Curtarelli. Diane could be a daughter. If you just run the last name of Yourex, you will find 6 pages of recorded documents. I'm "assuming" some of these are descendants of Lester. The Social Security Death Index showed Elsie M Yourex born 8 Oct 1921, died 18 Sep 2004. The Olympian http://www.theolympian.com/index.shtml has a copy of the obituary of Elsie. You can order it for $2.95. Just type in the name of "Yourex" in the top right corner, click the radio button for "archive". I can't find Alton Duane Roberson since the 1930 census

If you hope to find family, first try to get more information on them from your own relatives. If your parents are alive, ask them. Do/Did your parents have an address book? Look in it. Do/Did they have any old letters? Do/Did your parents keep wedding announcements? Did you get invited to one of the girl's weddings? Do you remember where they may have gone to school? Newspaper clippings? Do you have any other cousins or friends that might know of them or where they are living? Do you have any children that may have been in contact with them? Do you have any recollections of where they may have lived? When were you last in contact? What were their occupations? If Bob owned a 3000 acre cattle ranch, he probably didn't live in Seattle, probably in Eastern Washington. If Leonard was in the navy, he probably wouldn't be living in Eastern Washington (but he could). Did they mention scenic sites in their living area? The Space Needle, Grand Coulee Dam, went skiing! at Mt Spokane. Etc. Are Bob Robinson and Lenard/Leonard Robinson brothers? Is "Aunt Bert", the wife of one of them and her last name is Robinson, or another name? Were the other names given, sons and daughters of Bob, or Leonard, or "Aunt Bert"? From the Washington Death Index: I found a "Birdie Robinson" died at age 50, but on 12 Oct 1943, so assuming this is the wrong person. I found a large number of William Robinson's, but could find any of the names as indicated, without additional information. Ron Bestrom

Lived in Washington state, Wyoming,Nebraska > (born in) Ok, if you're going to get results in genealogy, you MUST provide details. Include the full name in the message area. Include dates, birthdate, marriage dates. Where was she born? That could help to identify her. Why do you think the death was after 1905? Was it before 1995? Give a possible circa date, ie "death was circa 1905-1910". Was she still married at death? Was she possibly living with siblings or children? Who were her children and where were they? If I find an obit for Anna Goldsmith and it just says died at the home of her daughter Amy Jones, this might be it, or we find out that she didn't have a daughter, or a son married to an Amy. In order to get an obit, you first have to find out where she lived. The 1900 census has 67 Anna Goldsmith, 374 Anna Mason, and 82 Anna Chamberlain. Of the Goldsmith's, one was in Nebraska, born about 1853 in Canada. Another, living in Nebraska, born 1872, in Iowa, was living in Omaha Nebraska. Husband's name began with N, (hard to read), daughter Ruth F. Born-appears to be May 1900. One of these, or one of the other 65 could be her; but I don't have enough information to look. Provide more info and a search can become more detailed. Ron Bestrom
