    1. Marriage lookup in the 1920's
    2. Hi All, I have a great great uncle, Edward Pugh, who was born and raised in Ohio. Around the turn of the century, he moved his family to Washington. On Feb. 1, 1907 while on a hunting trip, he drowned in the Sauk River. Through research, I found he had a wife named Eleanor and a daughter named Hannah and another daughter whose name I don't know. His daughters would have been married probably in the 1920's. Can anyone research the Washington marriage records of the 1920's and possibly see if a Hannah Pugh or another Pugh woman whose parents were Eleanor and Edward Pugh got married? Any help would be appreciated. Sean Pugh Clyde, OH spugh@onebellevue.com

    1. WA Marriage License Info
    2. Hello, I am new to this list and trying to find information about my grandparents, Bror Agart WIBERG and Ellen Eulalia JANSSON (JOHNSON). They were married June 4, 1914 in Seattle (according to the family bible). I would like to obtain a copy of the marriage license. The only info I can find for marriage licenses in WA states they are available after 1968. Are they available for Seattle before that date? If so does anyone have an address of where to write and what is the cost? Thanks so much for your help. 1. My Ancestors/Mes Ancetres
    2. http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/e/b/Brenda-M-Hebert "Mes Anctres" I just finished revising my genealogical web site at familytreemaker.com. If you haven't seen it at all, or you haven't seen it in awhile, come by and take a look. I broke up my Ahnentafel chart and made three ahnentafel charts to make it a bit easier to find my ancestors. Then there is the ahnentafel chart of my son's father. #1 is "Ancestors of Edward Joseph Hebert" which has all my French-Canadian ancestors, plus two German lines (DOCKSTADER & WOLFF) which moved into Qubec. This is the largest of the 4 ahnentafel charts I have. #2 is "Ancestors of Lillian Gertrude Merkle." She was my paternal grandmother. She is 1/2 German and 1/2 Irish. I don't have a lot on the MERKLEs, nor the Irish part (still trying to dig up those roots), but there is a lot of information out of Friesenheim, B-W about the ancestors of her paternal grandmother Helena TASCHER. #3 is "Ancestors of Sharon Elizabeth Beatty." This is my mom. Her father's BEATTY family is out of Armstrong Co, Pennsylvania, there is a lot of Germans, plus on French line and 4 Irish lines. Then there are quite a few dead ends. On her mother's side there is English, Norwegian, and what looks like roots coming out of New England and Ohio. #4 is "Ancestors of Robert Stephen Smith." This is my son's father. His family has been in the South for a long time. His mother's grandfather was General Claire Lee CHENNAULT, the C.O. of the Flying Tigers. There are also other surnames scattered like: LEE, HOUSTON, ROBERTS, SANDERS, THOMPSON, THOMASON, and several others. Everyone is welcome to stop by and peruse my site. if you see a familiar surname, e-mail me. Even if you don't see a familiar surname, e-mail me and let me know what you think! I try to update the web site every month or so as I find more information to include, so you're all more than welcome to stop by on a regular basis! http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/h/e/b/Brenda-M-Hebert

    1. 11-NOV-1997, Remember the Viet Nam Veteran
    2. daniel g dobson
    3. The following letter is from a Marine in Viet Nam to his parents. A remembrance to all who have answered their nation's call THEY'RE REAL CHAMPIONS "...Just imagine, most of the guys over here are 18 and fighting to make it to 19. The average age of the combat soldier in many units here is 18 1/2. And what a man he is. A pink cheeked, tousled haired, tight muscled fellow who, under normal circumstances, would be considered by society as half man, half boy, not yet dry behind the ears and a pain in the unemployment chart. "But here and now he is the beardless hope of free men. He is, for the most part, unmarried and without material possessions except possibly for an old car at home and a transistor radio here. He listens to rock n roll and 105 millimeter howitzers. "He just got out of high school, received so so grades, played a little football and had a girl who promised to be true. "He has learned to drink beer because it is cold and 'is the thing to do'. He is a private first class, a one year military veteran with one or possible three years to go. "He has never cared for work, preferred waxing his own car to washing his father's but he is now working or fighting from dawn to dark, and often longer. "He still has trouble spelling and writing letters home is a painful process. But he can break down his rifle in 30 seconds and put it back together in 29. He can describe the nomenclature of a fragmentation grenade, explain how a machine gun operates and use either if the need arises. "He can dig a foxhole, apply first aid to a wounded companion, march until he is told to stop, or stop until he is told to march. He has seen more suffering than he should in his short life. He has stood among hills of bodies, and he has helped to build those hills. He has wept in private and in public and has not been ashamed at doing either, because his pals have fallen in battle and he has come close to joining them. "He has become self sufficient. He has two pair of fatigues, washes one and wears the other. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but not his rifle. He keeps his socks dry and his canteen full. "He can cook his own meals, fix his own hurts and mend his own rips - material or mental. He will share his water with you if you thirst, break his rations in half if you hunger and split his ammunition if you are fighting for your life. "He can do the work of two civilians, draw half the pay of one and find ironic humor in it all. He has learned to use his hands as a weapon and his weapon as his hands. He can save a life or most assuredly take one. "He is now 19, a veteran and fighting to make 20 ..." Author Unknown I saw a copy of this letter in April 1968 and it has stuck with me ever since. Lets hope mankind has learn a lesson and keeps the peace. From a 50 year old Canadian who remembers. There may be no connection here at all but one never knows till he tries. 1. Unidentified subject!
    2. . Nov 1866 My DAWSON dead end is as follows: Thomas DAWSON (dates u/k) m. Hannah Isabel (maiden name u/k possibly SCHUYLER). Hannah was born about 1842 (maybe in NY) and died in August 1901 in Bellingham, Whatcom Co., Washington. She is buried in Bay View Cemetery. I cannot find a grave for Thomas in Whatcom County. The DAWSONs started out back East and were in W. Branch, Cedar Co, Iowa in Nov 1866 when their daughter Arminta Mary DAWSON was born. In 1869 they were in another county in Iowa, or in Nebraska when their daughter Viola Mae DAWSON was born. and in 1874 they were in Jones Co., Iowa when their son Thomas Schuyler DAWSON was born. According to Thomas S. DAWSON`s obituary, between Iowa and Bellingham, Washington, the family also stopped for a short time in San Francisco, California about 1886. By 1889 the DAWSON family was settled in Whatcom County, Washington. Arminta Mary DAWSON married Henry Robinson WATSON in 1891 in Bellingham. Henry ran the Old Whatcom Transfer and was born in County Durham, England. Mary died in 1938, Henry in 1942, both are buried in Bay View Cemetery in Bellingham. They had four children who lived to be adults, Mary Inez WATSON BELL, Arthur Schuyler WATSON, Clara Isabel WATSON JOHNSON and Henry Edmund "Ebbie" WATSON. Arthur and Ebbie died in Seattle, Washington. Viola Mae DAWSON married William H. BURGESS and lived in Bellingham. The children living at the time William died were: Lucille BURGESS ANDREEN, Thelma BURGESS DEETER, and Clarence BURGESS. Thomas Schuyler DAWSON married first to Ella PARKER in 1895. She died in 1898. He remarried in 1900 to Etta DOWNS. They settled in Okanogan County, Washington. He was a pioneer grocer and orchardist in that area. He died in 1939 in Wenatchee at the home of one of his daughters who had married John WILKINSON. He also had a son named George B. DAWSON who was living in San Francisco when Thomas died, and a daughter named Geraldine B. DAWSON who married a man named CARLSON. If anyone recognizes this family, I'd love to hear from them!
