The only STATE prison in Washington that would have existed then is the Washington State Penitentiary at Walla Walla. It's also possible he could have served time at the FEDERAL facility: McNeil Island Penitentiary. As to obtaining records from either, I'd suggest writing to the Archives for each institution. You should be able to find addresses on the Web. Hi Judy I'm just speculating here on what you have done and not done to find out your bride's name, since you only have the groom's name. First try searching Vital Records, here is the address for obtaining certified copies of marriage records. King County Marriage Records King Co. Administration Bldg., Rm. 311 500 4th Avenue Seattle, WA 98104 Make a check payable to King County Records for $3.00 and include both parties names. I know that you have said you only know the groom's name, so maybe call them and they could suggest something to you. Next maybe try to locate a newspaper from that time through the FHC (Family History Center) or through your local library. If you are not familiar with FHC just email me back and I'll try to explain things a bit more. What about church records... do you possibly know where the bride and groom lived or relatives that are still alive that could tell you the name of the church they married in? If all else fails try searching cemetery records (if the parties are no longer alive) death certificates should tell the spouses name. Also land and property records, military records, or probate records could be a link to find out his wife's name. Hope some of those suggestions help. Take care. Hi, Betty! Call the police! > Where was the prison in 1929/30, was there a state prison, Monroe was the State prison and Walla Walla was the "big house." > The person I'm looking for was suppost to have done 3 years, heard it > was for a robby and then it was for murder. My relative was in for forgery (one "unfortunate incarceration" in each institution) > Can one get copys of their prison records while they were there. I did. I called the local police office to ask about records and got transferred around until I was talking to Olympia! The prison records were destroyed but the control card (or some such name) was there as was the clemancy files. Both great and I got a picture! Joyce Wans Mukilteo WA USA
As far as I know Merchants Funeral Home is still in Clarkston, WA. You should be able to do an Internet search and see if there is a phone number for it and them do a search for any Merchant's listed. What is a good way to research a marriage in Seattle about 1920-1936? I know the grooms name but not the brides. Thanks, Judy
I am new to this list and geneology in general. My mother's maiden name is Patricia Ann Merchant. I want to find out information on her father Tom Merchant. They lived in Clarkston I think. My grandfather had a funeral home. Both my mother and grandfather died by age 60. I want to trace my roots and am starting here. Jill

Where was the prison in 1929/30, was there a state prison, The person I'm looking for was suppost to have done 3 years, heard it was for a robby and then it was for murder. He was not really a distance cousin, he was taken in by a grandmother. FRANK had been borned and lived most of his life in MT. Not sure if used his real name or the family name when he went in. I have both. Can one get copys of their prison records while they were there. Frank has died many years ago so I can't ask him. Thanks if anyone can help. Betty zipper@wtp.net This one of the many stories I want to clear up.
Since the list is so quiet - I thought I'd throw this one out! This is all the information I have on this great great grandmother. Does anyone have any ideas on how to research her? She was only 15 when she got married! SHINABARGER/MIX/WILKIE I am looking for information regarding Georgia Anna/Georgiana MIX. She was born 21 Nov 1873, married Ernest Franklin SHINABARGER 11 Dec 1888 in Chehalis County, Washington Territory. Her guardian at the time was David WILKIE. Family history says that she may have been of Indian blood, either Quinalt or Hoh. Their first child, Harry, was born 2 Aug 1890, Elma, Grays Harbor County, WA. They remained in Elma until at least 1892 when their second child, Millicent, was born. Ernest Franklin was killed in a lumber mill accident 11 Dec 1917 in Everett, WA. Georgia died 13 January 1948 in Chico, CA and was buried in Everett, WA.
Hello, I haven't gotten any messages on this list since I subscribed a couple days ago. I am wondering if I am the only one having problems with it. Or if there no one researching in WA.?? Anyway, Is there anyone researching the YOUNG line on this list?? My grandfather and his first wife lived in Seattle WA in abt 1927-28. He was in the Navy and about all I know about her is that she had an operation on Aug. 9 1928 and was in the hospital for a few weeks. Then I lose track of her. Since my grandfather was in the Navy I believe she would have had to be admitted to the Veteran Hospital there. Can some one tell me how I might be able to get some info. from this hospital??? Please let me know. Hello Everyone, I recently posted that I had added a new page to my Genealogy page called "Old Pictures of my YOUNG Family". I wanted also to let you all know that last night I finished the name charts at the bottom of the page. I copied all the names out of my grandfathers photo albums , I know alot are relatives and some friends and some Navy buddies' nicknames. If you are researching the YOUNG family and have relatives in Arkansas, you might want to check out this chart. You might have a connection to my YOUNG family. Also I'd like to mention that I also added a chart of the few people who signed his Navy LogBook in 1927-28. He was on the USS Maryland. If you recognize a name on this chart let me know because I might have a address to go along with that person. Good luck to you all and please sign my guest book and let me know what you think. Hi Karla........ Somewhere in my brain I recall someone researching Norway! I just can't at this moment figure out who it was. As I myself am researching Washington State, it could been someone from there. Please give me a couple of days to go through my old mail. I even replied to this person. I had asked them if they knew who Olaf Nansen was.....because my best girlfriend was a gal named Greta Nansen and she said he was her G. Grandfather. Hang in there, I hope I can find my post and reply. xxxxxxxxooo Louise King La Jolla, CA\ In a message dated 2/18/98 3:36:20 PM, klabo@cport.com wrote: >Hello Everyone, > Below is a letter from a lady in Norway who is researching her ancestors >and >desendants who came to Washington.
