Many thanks to all who responded to my migration request. My people were farmers and lumber & preachers. So all the information fits. Selma
We have a Free Internet Data Base open to anyone who would like to post their surname wants. The data base is limited to postings on Colonial residents, of any name, who were here in this country during the 1600's. You will also find lists of many family lines that have been accepted by various societies and organizations throughout the years. The 17th Century Residents Data Base is located at: http://www.linkline.com/personal/xymox/ This data base was designed by me and I maintain it with new additional listings on a daily basis. The best to you all. Ryan Jackson mailto:taylorfamily@linkline.com
Dose any one know what brought a great influx into WA about 1895-1900? I have talk with quite a few people whose ancesters left Maine 1875-1885, stopped off in Wisconsin untill 1895-1900 and then left for WA. I can't find any journals to tell me what was going on. Selma Grant
Selma...........My grandparents went to WA during that period. 1880 and 1881. My grandmother.......at least was in Iowa for a short time before that. I believe that the US Government was offering free land there........and if the families had been in the old world farmers............they, the government sent out brochures proclaiming that WA state had fertile land....... They were also told that the railroads would be there soon..........and that meant that there would be a huge influx of people coming there who would be customers for the wheat, barley and crops that could be grown. My grandparents came from Alsace, then German , now French. The climate in Washington is similar to the area Alsace......... Now..........I'd be a real fish out of the water if I moved to the East Coast......coming from So. California. So I feel that these people moved to place that was similar to where they had immigrated from. Hope this helps. I think by 1892 most of the Indians had been shipped off to reservations. He may be referring to timber, which I think is sometimes called a reserve. I have a letter dated Nov. 1892 from a polatician who's signature looks like W.R. Gay. Anyway, he says in the letter"...there has been a great many changes. The reserve is nearly cleared off and we show up on the bay to strangers as quite a city, though a city of shanties." What could he mean? Is he referring to an Indian reserve? The letter is written to a relative of mine and most of the letter is about business and renting his land. Thanx, Brigitte

There are two ways to get the certs: 1. Go to the WaGenWeb page; down under Research Links on the right side; click on "Where to write for vital records. This gives you the address and fees. If you don't want to pay the big fees and live near a LDS Family History Center, you can borrow the certs films. They are arranged by and county. The rental fee is about $3.75 but may vary from FHC to FHC. If you are desperately 'poor' and very patient I have access to certs from 1907 to 1955. I will copy them if you truly can't deal with the other options. Does anyone know if the witness to the will of Lawrence WASHINGTON, in Rappahannock County, VA, on 27 Sep 1675, was Henry SANDY, jr or Henry TANDY, jr. In "The Washington Family" edited by Worthington C. Ford, NY, 1983 and in "The Pedigree & History of the Washington Family" by Albert Welles, NY 1879, they list the witness as Henry SANDY, jr. However, the copy of the will received from (old) Rappahannock County Wills, Deeds No. 1 1665-1677 pg. 219-224 has the name as "TANDY". I assume the copy they sent is not a copy of the original text, but rather a "recorder's" copy of the will. Does anyone know if this is correct? And does the original text exist somewhere?
Is there a kind person in Lewis Co. who could look up an obit or two for me?? Jennie A. Fuson b. 1879 in MN, to a Mr. Jones and Mary Taylor, married and divorced Cordell Fuson of Pierce Co. WA after coming to WA about 1888 with her family. She died 20 Jan 1945 in Lewis Co. Her sister, Bertha M. Jones, who married a Karl G. Schiel also died in Lewis Co. 28 Aug 1975. An obit on her might also provide me with some clues. An obit would clarify her father's first name and possibly more!!! It is possible that his name was Bernie. Would love to know specifics on him as well if possible. Willing to pay for copying/mailing costs. Thanks so much, Gayle gayle@olypen.com

Sorry, I got interrupted and thought I was finished. This is a corrected version. Celia Donna, Go to WaGenWeb Project page [Washington state] and look down the right hand side of the page to 'where to write ... and then look for Snohomish county on that page, the address is there. The state did not collect these records until after 1907, so for these early ones ask at the county level. They may have been transcribed by the Sno-Isle Society, if I can find them, I'll let you know. Celia Tomlin Hope this makes more sense.
