    1. [WASHINGTON-L] Spokane Murder.
    2. Hello Washington List Members: Here's a challenge for those interested in Spokane stories. Back about 1943-1946, when I was a baby in a crib, and my father was a young, gung-ho Army officer, he came home one day to discover a lumberjack in bed with my mother! That's what I've been told, folks! Well, it seems this lumberjack proceeded to jump my dad with a knife, a fight ensued, and dad killed the lumberjack in "defense of home and hearth, etc.". He was subsequently acquitted of the murder. I was told years ago that there was a local trial, community members took sides, there were newspaper stories that closely followed the trial, etc. So, if anybody can prove, or disprove any of this story for me, please do! Thanks, Karen

    3. Dear All, I have a copy of the obituary!! Thank you, thank you, Bud!! I hope you will take time to read this message. I am absolutely speechless from the offers of help in finding the obituary for this gentleman. As an adopted person, genealogy is quite dear to me. I am 51 years old and at the age of 48 I finally found my father's family. Last year I was able to meet my first cousins spread out from CA>UT>CO>MO>IL>OH> IA>NE. It was a wonderful feeling. The gentleman who is noted herein did me such a favor by sending a query in 1979 within which were invaluable clues to further putting my family line together. It was only last week that I found the query at Yates Publishing. As I noted previously, from the wording of the query one can tell this gentleman was reciting verbal history and had a great desire to "find" his family. I can only pray that he was as lucky as I have been. I will make sure that his surviving family is made aware of his contribution to "our" family history. I would also like to tell you what pride I have in the Northwest. I am born and raised in southern Oregon and am very proud of my roots. While I understand that the people responding to my request for help could be from anywhere originally, I think we can all agree that there is a special feeling about the NW "attitude". My encounters with genealogy researchers across the nation has been wonderful, but the response from the NW just seemed a bit more special. This is the first time since I started my search for my father's family that I have been able to turn to the NW for help. As expected, the response was warm, understanding, and QUICK!! Again, thanks to everyone that responded. What a wonderful, wonderful feeling it is to have assistance like this, and at a time when I was very much "in a hurry" for an answer. Please be assured that in the past, and in the future, I have and will lend a helping hand. All of you have touched me deeply and I am very thankful. With utmost sincerity, Richard Sergeant (lobosolo@halcyon.com) Seattle, WA Researching: Sharp, Yates, Sexton, Pointer, Johnson, Coffey, Estes, Manker, Skaggs, Ausmus, and many others.

    3. Looking for info on Mae Lawrence who married August Zeahl in 1887 in Miles Pct, Lincoln Co. The were married in the home of Wm Kipp. On the 1900 census, still living in Miles Pct, her birth is listed as 3/1867 Illinois, father (James on death cert) born KY, mother born TN. I don't find her anywhere in 1880 so far, so would be particularly interested in where she was at that time. Was she already in WA, or still in IL or somewhere inbetween. I am curious whether or not she traveled to WA with her birth family. I don't find a James Lawrence in WA in the 1900 census. I am also looking for where she was born in IL, but that is another part of the puzzle. Any suggestions as to places I should look would be appreciated. 3. I had written Colleen that I thought it might be a CCC camp, but these are good replies. The Department of Transportation probably has these camps mapped and could help also. If you call the state 800 Information number they will forward you to the right office. I have been in the DOT basement where they keep the maps and they are a nice bunch of guys. For that number type www.WAHomePage.com into your URL address line - or WAstate or go to Cyndi's List and scroll down to US, click on WA and you will find the WA State Home Page - has all the state agencies on it. Also for any other state in the country! Probably works for Vital Statistics too! Norma Marilyn Drake wrote: > > Colleen > > I live close to Brooklyn. 3. WA state used to charge less for copies not notarized which would save you some money. You should ask when ordering if non-notarized copies cost less. In genealogy we only need the info, don't need a notary stamp! 3. Hi Colleen, I don't know about Brooklyn, or Northwest Camp 15, but last year I found alot of information about old logging camps from the Weyerhaeuser Company, main office and 'archive' are in Federal Way, Washington. My g-grandfather was one of the first 'timber cruisers' that worked for the Weyerhaeuser Company when they first came to WA. in 1900. At their private archive they have alot of information about the logging industry here, from that time period (1900) til today, I was able to make a appointment and go their personally. I wonder if you called them if their librarian would be able to help you. http://www.wy.com/ is their web site, but not much info....I would try calling, just some thoughts.... Sharon
