    1. [WASHINGTON-L] Native American Research
    2. Dona Van Voorst
    3. Greetings: Would like to know if anyone is working on local Native American lines, particularly Coast Salish, Skagit Tribes, and Cowichan. My earliest ancestor was known as Tol Stolah, a princess of the Samish tribe, who was reportedly born on Fidalgo Island circa 1843. Her father was Sil-Wis-Os, as Sub-chief of the Samish, and Guila-Can, a princess of the Cowichan Tribe of lower Van Couver Island. Also working on Cherokee lines Rider and Martin in Oklahoma. Any REAL Americans out there? Dona VanVoorst

    1. [WASHINGTON-L] Re: Davis Line
    2. Dona Van Voorst
    3. Patience: This is actually the line of Samuel Davis, an elder brother of Pres. Jefferson Davis, late of Civil War fame. This Davis line begins in Kentucky and ends at Rosemont Plantation, Woodville, Mississippi. There is also Keary, a Davis allied family in Louisiana. As well as, the family of Benjamin T. Davis late of Jacksonville, Oregon and the Boise Basin in Idaho. In consideration of your time frame (1833) my first question would be - was your Amanda Davis a Southern lady? Do you know the names of her parents and/or the name of her spouse? My Davis family is not computerized - so will need some sort of 'road map' to know how to proceed. Dona VanVoorst

    3. Hi all, I just joined this list so I thought that I would post my interests to see if anyone else on the list is working with the same families. My gr grandfather was Thomas Hughes from northern Wales. He was born in 6/20/1846. He married Jane Williams born 1847 also in Wales. They had five children all born in Iowa - 1. Elizabeth born 3/16/1873 who married Charles J Diebrel of Spokane. They had three daughters - Caroline, Eva May who married William J Acheson and had a son Charles W, and Margaret Jane who maried Wilbert C Yocum and had a Jr. 2. Richard (my grandfather) about whom I have all the descendents 3. John born either 6/1872 or 1879 (the census of 1880 gave different info than the census of 1900 about John's birthdate. I'm trying to check this out. 4. Sarah born 2/1880 5. Frank J born 12/18/1884 Thomas then married Anna Williams in 1889 (Jane apparently died although I cannot find the record of her death) and they had son Abner born in Almira WA. 3. Is there anyone who lives in or near Davenport who might be willing to stop by the Davenport Times and look up an obituary for me? I have written the paper and asked if they would do this, but have not received any reply - even with a SASE enclosed. I live north of Seattle so it's hard to just drop into to Davenport. Thanks Bev

    1. [WASHINGTON-L] D.A.V. definition
    2. my apologies, I should have at least taken a stab at defining D.A.V. in my previous post. I believe D.A.V. stands for Disabled American Veterans. Also, this information was among some notes I have about John DePonty, my grandfather. Does anybody have any idea what type of information might be available from the D.A.V. about a relative who was a member of a Chapter 17? And, how do you find out which branch of the D.A.V. is #17? Thanks, Karen in Texas
