    1. [WASHINGTON-L] Main Families/dates/migration
    2. Hello, I am very excited... I have just finished uploading my whole family tree to the internet. There are almost 3,600 individuals, most dating pre-1900. Below are the major/main lines and their routes of migration. But there are hundreds of other surnames ("branches")... some having dozens of individuals each. I would sincerely love to trade info with anyone who thinks there is a connection :-) To view the entire database: http://www.myfamily.com enter user name: user1 enter password: user1 to see the individuals B & D dates, along with places, use the search option. Thank you for your time. 3. I assume your request to Iowa was to the State Vital Records in Des Moines, since they cannot locate a death certificate I would assume that it is perhaps misfiled in someway. You have pretty good evidence that MEIER died in Ottumwa, IA, so I think I would call the Wallepo County Clerk or recorder to see if they have the death certificate. Check at this link for address and info. http://www.rootsweb.com/~iawapegs/courtrec.htm Also it would be a good idea to check Spokane, WA for a probate case. If MEIER had a will and owned property etc in Spokane then his Will would've been probated there, and occasionally they even file a copy of the death certificate at the time the Petition to Probate a Will is filed. The Spokane County Clerk will have Probate records on microfilm. Hope these idea's help! Nancy Jo Campbell Washougal, Wa -----Original Message----- From: L. 1. [WASHINGTON-L] Death Cert. for Jacob Peter MEIER 1826-1903
    2. L. Carlyine Ritter
    3. Dear Washington researchers, I need your expert advice, please. My great grandfather, Jacob Peter MEIER, moved his family from Ottumwa, Wapello Co., Iowa to Spokane, WA about 1895-1899 (they were on the 1900 US Census in Peaceful Valley area). Jacob made a trip back to Ottumwa, evidently to visit family remaining there (I suspect he arrived in Ottumwa with adult children from a former marriage). According to a 30 Apr 1903 newspaper death notice, "Remains will be laid away tomorrow morning in Calvary Cemetery...who died Mon afternoon while on a visit in the city...." I have verified the fact that his remain area, in deed, located in that cemetery. I have requested a death certificate from Iowa a number of times, using a range of years and variety of spellings, etc., but all I've been able to receive is an actual certificate stating that a search was made, but not death certificate exists. Very frustrating, as I looked forward to the possibility of a clue as to his origins (all I've had to go on is census info that he and his parents were born in Germany). Do you think there is a possibility I'm looking in the wrong place? Could it be that the death certificate is on file in Washington State because Jacob was a resident of that state when he died? I'd hate to spend $18 to get another certificate certifying no certificate exists! There is a little entertainment value in receiving such a certificate, I acknowledge; however, it gets a bit spendy for folks like me who are on a limited income! 1. [WASHINGTON-L] Abandoned cemetery legislation hearing is announced
    2. Peter M. & Andrea D. MacDonald
    3. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL WASHINGTON STATE MAILLISTS, ALL GENEALOGICAL SOCIEITES, ALL HISTORICAL SOCIETIES Hello all, Many of you are already aware of new legislation protecting abandoned cemeteries being introduced into the Washington state legislature as HB 1951 by Representative Patricia Lantz (see my original message below). I received word from her yesterday that a hearing has been scheduled for THIS Friday - TWO DAYS FROM NOW! - at 1:30 in Olympia. I am writing to ask if there is anyone out there who will please attend the hearing and speak on the subject. Without the public showing up for this hearing, it will not be approved -- we must have several people there! If you can attend, please let me know. Everyone who wishes may make a statement or submit a handwritten statement to be read after the hearing. Especially interesting testimony would come from anyone who actually attended the Snohomish Cemetery Trial -- Carroll Clark, Evelyn, Glen Grace, Carolyn. I am also especially interested in anyone who successfully restored a cemetery -- Glen Grace, or anyone who is in the process of restoring a cemetery -- Dave Preugschat for one. Also, professional genealogists or genealogists aware of the problems surrounding primary records derived from our old cemeteries would be welcome to testify. Have a statement prepared before you arrive at the hearing. Representative Lantz would like to know how many people will be attendance so please let me know. >From Representative Lantz... Hello Andrea: This message is to advise you that HB 1951, has received a hearing date. It is: Friday, February 26, 1999 1:30pm HHR B - John L. 1. [WASHINGTON-L] Looking for COOMES
    2. Hello list, This is concerning a person I have not seen, or heard anything about, in 30 years. He is my sister's son. When she died in 1964, my husband and I moved to Texas. He was only 3 months old. When his mother died, he was sent to live with his father's sister. I don't know what her name is. His name is: Brett Robert COOMES: Father; George COOMES: Mother; Vicki May COOMES (maiden name; HAWS) She has 3 other children from a previous marriage. I finally found them last year. Brett is the only child she and George had in the brief time they were married, before she died. He was, at the age of 3 months, in the Tri-City area of WA. If I can find him, I think he might like to know he has two half brother's, and one half sister. They went to live with my sister's first husband Jack L. Quinn, so they don't know their brother at all. They just know he is out there some where. If anyone has any information concerning this young man. Please contact me personally at: fantasy50@juno.com Thank you for your time, Wendy ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
