This is what I found from the Social Security Death Index: HESTER O'NEILL SS# 532-46-9672 b.15 Nov 1891 RESIDENCE: 98632 LONGVIEW, COWLITZ CO., WA d.August 1972 ISSUED: WA (BEFORE 1963) I got this from Ancestry.com You can go to your public library and use their computers and print out a form (I will tell you where and how) that you send with some $$ and you can send away for a copy of their actual application which has alot of info. Go to www.rootsweb.com and look for Social Security Death Index You put in her name and SS# and when you see it come up, look around and you will see "FORM or PRINT" and click on it and it will already have her info on the page. Print it out and send in the money for it and you will receive the info. Good luck. We are trying to put together a family of children that were adopted out or placed in foster care in the 1930's. Leroy was not adopted out but has disapeared. Because of the ages of his sisters he might not be alive. His name is Leroy Neil, born about 1929, maybe in Gray Harbor. His father was Raymond Neil and his mother was Clara Lucas Neil Allwardt Marlow. We have final found his fathers burial place in Cospmopolis and his mother's burial place is Oregon. There were other sisters besides the two that have found each other after 72 years of being apart. We are just taking stabs in the dark here and there hoping for a lead. Leroy married a woman named Fayona ? and had two daughters, Angela and Yolanda, but left his family when the girls were very young. Any chance that he shows up on Washingtons death records? Jennifer

I'm looking for a photo which appeared on the front page of the Seattle Times in early 1954. The story was about a ship returning from Japan/ Korea. The picture is of a Navy Chief and his young wife, upon his return. If anyone has a clue on how to obtain a copy, I would love to know. Dear Cynthia, Thanks for the tip, and the references. What a godsend this is. Good deed Good Samaritan. Martha
I can add some items to Cynthia's list. The Home Undertaking records are at Evergreen-Washelli as Audrey wrote. And I was told several weeks ago that Evergreen charges $10.00 for lookups. It was $5.00 about a year before that. Groth Funeral Home (formerly White, 3909 Calif. Ave. S.W.) records now at: Bonney-Watson Burien Chapel 900 S. My experience with Funeral Homes has been WONDERFUL. I was able to find out what my biological grandfather died of, the details of his ceremoney and EVEN his military information which I didn't even know he was in the military. I can now use this to find out about his military career. I was given a copy of his death certificate. The funeral home wouldn't take any money for this service. He died before I was born, so this information was over 30 years old. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, June 05, 2003 3:01 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [WASHINGTON-L] Cemetery & Funeral Homes list Dear Cynthia, Thanks for the tip, and the references. During a round of correspondence with another "lister", I see a need that I can address.with some addresses! Ha! Often overlooked, Cemeteries and Funeral Homes should be considered a valuable source of information. Some privacy rules may prohibit them from disclosing ALL, but most certainly do not pass them up as a source for obituaries! Most operations do not charge, but there are exceptions. Most prefer to receive the request in writing (Fax works as well!) so that folks like me who volunteer their time to go up into those hot, dusty attics can take the sheet of paper with them when thumbing through 75 year old record books! Here's a list of King County funeral homes. In case you are wondering where I hang out - it's Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle and we do not charge for record searches! Keep in mind, we need specific dates. Our records are not computerized and receiving a request for a 10-year span is um, well, depressing. So here you go, the reference I'm using: National Directory "The Red Book", the National Directory of Morticians - 63rd edition - 1998 Chagrin Falls, OH. I have tried to update any information if I'm aware of it, however, there may be some businesses that have undergone some changes and the current phone numbers, names or addresses may differ than what's in the book. I apologize if this is an inconvenience. AUBURN: Price-Helton (253) 833-1165 Yahn & Son (253) 833-8877 - P.O. I hope that I didn't leave anybody out. Some of the older death certificates will have smaller undertaking companies that have been absorbed by the larger funeral homes. Do some historical detecting! But here's a "Gimme": There was a large company called Home Undertaking, which I believe became part of Acacia FH. Home Undertaking was a massive operation during the 1940s-1950s that went under when the freeway was built. Good luck in your search! Cynthia Baxter
