Hello List! As you may remember, I a really just beginning my research on the Washburn line of my family, so please forgive any questions that may seem silly to you guys who have been at this for a while. I went to the Family History Center the other night for the first time and looked up the Washburn line on the Ancestral Files. But I'm baffled by something that I saw, and perhaps one of you folks can help me. I was trying to verify the info that has been given me (by a family member) on an Elijah Washburn, b. abt 1725 in Bridgewater. This Elijah was supposed to have a son, Joseph, born in Leicester, MA in 1754. When I looked in the Ancestral file, however, I noted that there have been multiple Elijah's submitted for this particular family, as well as multiple Mary's. One other child, whose name I can't recall, also was a multiple submission. My question: Were there actually mulitiple children with the same name in this family? If not, who is the "real" Elijah Washburn and who were his sons? The volunteer at the FHC was baffled by this, and tho impressed that many individuals had apparently done ALOT of work on this line (the file goes back to the 1200's, I believe), thinks that the problem might be that too many folks have made submissions and not everything is correct. After following this list for the past week, it is obvious to me that you guys seem to have a handle on this. I would appreciate any input you can offer as I do not know how to proceed with getting records that old. Best Regards, Beda Warrick
