This is NOT the family that founded the University or close relatives. They were grandsons of Nathan Washburn, a drummer in the American Revolution. Avery Washburn and his brother James Monroe Washburn, both born in Stafford, CT moved to Topeka after the Civil War. Avery had married Castorn Gordon, lived in NY and then moved to Topeka. Monroe married Cornelia Sweet, also from NY, moved to Baton Rouge and left there during the war, moved to Stafford and then on to Topeka. I have quite a few letters from Monroe and some from Avery that they sent to there brother John Randolph Washburn in Stafford. They sent lots of photos from Topeka of their families and I have put them on a page of my website. Some are just numbered with the hope that someone can identify them. I would like to share them with their descendants. Sue http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/3374/TopekaWashburns.htm
